Nothing’s CEO reveals the price of the future smartphone, sparking discussion online on pricing

Can a £800 smartphone be considered affordable?

During the Android Show, where Google announced the latest Android updates and innovations, Nothing’s CEO Carl Pei revealed some details about the company’s next smartphone.

Nothing Phone 3 is expected to be released in the summer of this year.

According to the company’s CEO, it will be its first flagship smartphone, with “premium materials, major performance upgrades, and software that really levels things up."

While that might sound promising, Pei also shared the possible price of the future smartphone, hinting that it could be sold for around £800 (≈$1070).

Such a cost would put the latest Nothing phone in the same price range as the Samsung Galaxy S25 and iPhone 16.

For comparison, the company’s previous smartphone, Nothing Phone (2), costs $700.

Nevertheless, the pricing of the future smartphone has prompted a discussion online, with users being surprised that Nothing, which is known for its affordable smartphones, could cost more than a thousand dollars.

“[...] That phone better have a lot of good features for that price!!” wrote one user online.

“Yeah they should've kept around 650-700 pounds range. Whats great about Nothing is that they'd good affordable pricing and good features,” noted another Redditor.

While some users speculate about the final price of the smartphone, given the situation with tariffs, one user noted that “$800 is about to become the new midrange.”

Some users also noted the fact that the smartphone will be the company’s first flagship phone, so they expect it to have a “major redesign” and, in this way, justify the higher price.

“We haven't seen anything new from the design since the Phone 1, aside from the camera shape,” wrote a user.

“Gonna be interesting to see the justification for this price. If they're banking on Nothing AI to be the big feature, then I'm out,” noted another netizen, also surprised by the company’s decision to share the price before revealing any smartphone specifications.

Besides the hints about the future Nothing Phone 3, Google presented the updates that Android users could expect, among which are “massive security improvements.”
