LG Display hands over its factory in China after closing deal with TCL CSOT

LG has closed the deal, which it initiated last September, with Chinese company TCL CSOT.

LG Display's LCD TV panel factory, located in Guangzhou, China, has been sold for 10.8 billion yuan ($1.5 billion) to TCL China Star Optoelectronics Technology (TCL CSOT).

The deal was first announced in September 2024 and finalized in April 2025.

The company plans to rename the 8.5-generation factory “T11” and begin large-scale production.

TLC now manages two 6-generation LCD production lines, four 8.5-generation lines, one 8.6-generation line, and two 10.5-generation lines, reports FlatpanelsHD.

Seventy percent of the global production capacity of LCD TV panels is now controlled by Chinese manufacturers such as TCL CSOT, BOE, and HKC, which is 5% higher than last year.

LG Display will limit LCD panel production to a smaller scope for devices such as smartphones and tablets. The company shared that the earnings from the factory sale will be invested in OLED development.

LG Display isn’t the only company that has left the LCD market. In 2022, Samsung Display sold its LCD-related patents to TCL CSOT.
