M.I.A sells tin foil hats that supposedly protect you from 5G waves

British rapper, singer, and producer M.I.A has launched her new clothing line, which claims to combat the harsh side effects of the digital age.

Mathangi Arulpragasam, otherwise known as M.I.A is a popular UK artist known for her songs ‘Paper Planes’ and ‘Bad Girls.’ However, this British-born singer is turning heads, and not in the way you might expect.

It’s common for celebrities and artists to embark on new business ventures. For example, the popular R&B singer, Rihanna, ventured into the beauty industry after she stopped making music. It’s a seemingly natural projection.

So, how is she doing this? Well, she’s created a clothing line called OHMNI that promises to combat the “the unseeable” digital devils that exist amongst us. Yes, she’s talking about 5G waves and much more supposed nasty stuff related to the cyber realm.

The clothing line claims that it’s the “last frontier at preserving your privacy, autonomy, and rights over your body and your data,” the OHMNI website reads.

Now, it’s hard to tell whether this is satire, ironic, or excellent marketing, but M.I.A doesn’t strike me as a tin foil hat wearing, conspiracy theory believing individual. But nonetheless, she has created OHMNI, otherwise known as “the armour of the modern knight in the age of modern technological warfare.”

But let’s get into the looks.

There’s a wide range of apparelle that is compromised of what the OHMNI website calls “precious metals.” For example, one of the items that caught our attention, ‘the tin foil hat,’ is made of pure copper and Nickle shielding fabric that supposedly deflect electromagnetic waves. Oh, and it’s $100.

What’s wild about this clothing line is the properties it claims to have. Or, the things it promises to protect you from. For example, the OHMNI Full Protection Poncho alongside the other designs, are meant to protect you from the following:

  • Wi-Fi
  • Radiation
  • Satallites
  • EMF
  • RFID
  • Data tracking
  • Bluetooth
  • Cell towers

On almost all, if not every piece in the collection, the description states that the atomic structure of the pieces is unique and the copper offers “exceptional electrical conductivity, deflecting electromagnetic waves such as Wi-Fi & 5G with up to 99.999% shielding effectiveness.”

One of the most intriguing pieces is the ‘Anti Trace Phone Case’ which supposedly takes you off the grid the minute you put your phone in the pouch. The website claims that “this phone case takes you instantly off the grid, cutting all Wi-Fi and Data, making your devices untrackable and unhackable.

Whether or not any of these pieces have the ability to what they claim they do is unknown, but it’s certainly interesting to see artists entering the digital realm and offering strange, but fashionable solutions to the worlds cybersecurity needs.

On X users have expressed interest in the weird and wonderful campaign. M.I.A posted to her X account:

“OHMNI WEAR IS CAMO AGAINST THE UNSEEABLE. IT'S GIVES YOU AUTONOMY OVER YOUR DATA WHILE HELPING YOU PROTECT YOUR NUTS AND YOUR WOMB. YOUR GRANDKIDS WILL THANK YOU. YOU CAN THANK ME LATER.”

Many of the comments praised the innovative design and interesting message behind her new clothing line, while other questioned the movement and have dubbed this clothing line as “posh tin foil hats.”

What OHMNI has dubbed “the revolutionary future of fashion” others have disregarded. But as her website reminds us, “If the conspiracy theorists are wrong, good for you, you own some beautiful clothes made with pure silver and precious metals. But, if they are right, you just might have saved the future of humanity.”
