A mosquito that you’d better not squash.
China’s National University of Defence Technology (NUDT) has been working on a micro drone that resembles a mosquito. The drone is primarily designed for military operations.
What makes the drone special is the fact that it’s extremely small, making it easy to hide.
The device includes two see-through wings that look like insect wings and four thin “legs” that could be used for landing.
One of the major uses of such drones is military observation or special missions. This is possible because the drone includes advanced power systems, control electronics, and sensors placed in a tiny body, reports Interesting Engineering.
Such devices are valuable due to their small sizes, as they are hard to detect in covert operations or espionage.
Besides military use, mini drones could also be valuable in industries, such as the medical field, where they could be used in surgery or diagnostics, as well as environmental monitoring to detect pollution levels or disaster response.
Despite their advantages, these drones are hard to build due to their minuscule design, considering that the device includes components such as batteries and sensors.
Micro drones and micro robots are becoming popular due to their small size and extended capabilities.
Recently, engineers created a flying robot that resembles a bumblebee. The same engineers from UC Berkeley also developed a “cockroach” robot that can survive after being stepped on.
