Tesla will discontinue one-time sales of the Full-Self Driving (FSD) driver assistance system, which will now be available as subscription-only.
Tesla will cease one-time FSD sales after February 14th and will make it available as a monthly subscription thereafter, Elon Musk announced on X.
Musk didn’t provide details on the potential changes to subscription pricing, which now costs $99 per month for both Basic Autopilot and Enhanced Autopilot.
Neither did he specify what will happen with already purchased FSD systems, currently priced at $8,000.
The FSD system is marketed to assist with “the most burdensome parts of driving,” as it helps the vehicle with steering, accelerating, and braking for other vehicles and pedestrians within its lane.
The announcement sparked mixed reactions on X, with users raising concerns that already-purchased FSD may no longer be transferred to new vehicles.

“If I buy it for $8,000, I need to be able to get at least 7 years out of it to make it worth my while. Which means likely transferring to a new car via a trade-in special. If we cannot do that anymore, I would have never bought FSD full price in the first place,” a user wrote.
Others suggested that a subscription could be a great Valentine's Day gift, since one-time purchases end after February 14th.
