“It will run on roadkill for the looks of it:” users react to robot you can ride like a horse

A future where we could be riding AI-powered horses.

Kawasaki Heavy Industries, a Japanese manufacturer, has revealed its latest creation –

Corleo. It’s a four-legged robot that can be ridden like a horse.

The animal-inspired robot isn’t a novelty, but Corleo could be the first robot of this type designed to be ridden by people.

The video that Kawasaki released shows how the robot horse is capable of traversing rugged terrain, dense woodlands, snowy landscapes, and even streams.

Despite the company releasing a video of a robot, it hasn’t been developed into a functioning prototype yet.

Kawasaki executive officer Takashi Torii told Tokyo Weekender that the idea behind the robot horse is to redefine means of transportation by combining the company’s robotics and motorcycle technologies.

All four of Corleo’s “legs” include hooves “featuring a left-right divided structure made of rubber” which is slip-resistant and can “absorb” surface irregularities.

The company also hints at the vehicle being equipped with an AI system that would allow increased balance and navigation with the robot responding to the rider’s body movements the same way as a real horse does.

Corleo should also include a display panel with information such as hydrogen level, route, center of gravity position, and more. Riders could also use the robot horse at night as it shows projecting markers on the road.

The robot horse is expected to be launched by 2050, but the company hasn’t shared any details concerning the development and specifications such as the vehicle’s speed, battery life, range of travel, or price.

The company is expected to unveil the concept at the Osaka-Kinsai Expo starting on April 13th, 2025.

The news about the future robot horse started a discussion online.

Some users found it hard to believe that such a vehicle could see the light of day, stating “I'll believe it when I see a working prototype and not a shitty render.”

Many also commented on the quality of the video, stating: “Why did they make this thing look like a Spy Kids happy meal toy?”

“Well, it will run on roadkill for the looks of it,” joked another user.

Others were also quick to notice the fact that it would take some time for the company to turn the idea into an actual product.

“Well, it's not coming out until 2050 apparently. so hopefully we'll be around to see it come to life,” wrote one Redditor.

“Ridable Pokemon?? Take my money!” expressed another user.
