A $100K test: Cybertruck gets stuck in water again, users raise alarm bells about its “Wade Mode”

Another Cybertruck owner wanted to test Elon Musk’s theory that the Cybertruck can cross rivers.

A Cybetruck owner from Truckee, California, got his Tesla vehicle stuck in the mud after the driver decided to test Cybertruck’s “Wade Mode.”

According to Tesla’s Cybertruck Owner’s manual, the “Wade mode allows Cybertruck to enter and drive through bodies of water, such as rivers or creeks.”

However, the same manual then follows a number of cautions and warnings about users having to assess the situation before going into the water.

“It is your responsibility to gauge the depth of any body of water before entering. Damage or water ingress to Cybertruck as a result of driving in water is not covered by the warranty,” says the manual.

The news about the vehicle getting stuck was shared by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Truckee post on Facebook.

“Remember folks, ‘Wade Mode’ isn’t ‘Submarine Mode.’ If your plans include exploring the great outdoors, make sure to know your limits and the terrain,” the post read.

The same post also started a discussion on Reddit, with users criticizing Tesla’s owners who believe in Musk’s claims that his Cybertrucks can cross rivers.

“The little tech boys who dropped $100K on these rolling stupidities, and have zero experience with actual trucks or nature, think that it really is military-grade sh*t that can go anywhere,” wrote one user online, also adding, “If this is public land, whoever tried this should be writing a check to the state.”

While some users were interested in what “Wade mode” is and how it works, others didn’t miss the fact that this vehicle feature “comes with so many asterisks that they might as well not have it at all.”

“It alerts Tesla that you are willingly driving into water so they can void your warranty,” wrote one user, hinting at the fact that the company’s warranty doesn’t cover any damages done due to immersion into water.

Perhaps the trust in one’s vehicle to cross water roads came after Elon Musk himself shared a few years ago via X that “Cybertruck will be waterproof enough to serve briefly as a boat, so it can cross rivers, lakes & even seas that aren’t too choppy.”

However, this isn’t the first time that Tesla’s Cybertruck has gotten stuck in the water. Last year, one was fished out of a lake in Slovakia.

The situation also caused many users to express their negativity towards Tesla and its Cyber trucks.

“How can there be many of these fugly cans be left on this earth with so many already crashed, drowned, bricked or parts falling off?, shared one Redditor.

“F*ck it! If the cyber-cucks wanna drown their vehicles, I’m all for it. Much safer for the rest of us, if these abominations are left to rot in the bottom of lakes, rivers, oceans,” wrote another.

“A Muskite’s only limit is the bottom. And there is no bottom,” concluded a user online.
