Why do you need a VPN in the UAE?
There are a few reasons related to security and heavy censorship policies that explain why you need a VPN in the UAE. Whether you’re a permanent resident seeking a long-term solution or just a visitor interested in VPNs for traveling, here are the main reasons to get a Dubai VPN:
- Unblock free video and voice calling apps. In the Emirates, apps like WhatsApp, Skype, Snapchat, Viber, TeamViewer, and FaceTime are blocked. You need a VPN to change your virtual location so you can use it for calls and video chats.
- Stay private online. Without a VPN, websites and internet providers can see your online activities, which might include personal information.
- Bypass internet censorship. The UAE has strict internet rules that block many websites, including Facebook, X, Instagram, the Guardian, and BBC News. A VPN helps you visit websites that are typically inaccessible in the country.
- Access your streaming content. While traveling, you might be unable to watch your usual streaming shows on platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, or Hulu. A good VPN can remove these restrictions, letting you watch your favorite content as usual.
Top 5 best VPNs for the UAE and Dubai
Not all VPNs serve the same purpose. Some excel at streaming, while others prioritize privacy and security. To find the best VPNs for the UAE, our research team and I tested 41 trusted providers and selected the top five based on privacy features, overall usability, and pricing.
1. NordVPN – overall best VPN for the UAE and Dubai in 2026

Personally, I think that NordVPN is the best all-around VPN for the UAE because it makes bypassing online restrictions super easy. VPNs can slow down your connection speed, but that doesn’t seem to be the case with NordVPN – it’s the fastest VPN we’ve tested. Plus, it adds a strong layer of security features, which is always good in all kinds of situations. All in all, this provider can help you with everything, from accessing blocked sites to letting you have more privacy, making it an excellent long-term investment.
Unblocking capabilities
According to our in-house tests, NordVPN is an excellent VPN for bypassing geographical restrictions. I use it regularly to unblock geo-exclusive content on various streaming services, video game platforms, and online publications. There was no need to enable advanced features most of the time, but the VPN includes a few if you want to improve your chances.
For starters, there are obfuscated servers, which are explicitly made to bypass online restrictions. Secondly, you can use Onion over VPN servers to route your connection through the Tor network for improved anonymity. Naturally, you should also use NordVPN’s special NordLynx protocol for the best connectivity results, but OpenVPN is also an option if the former protocol doesn’t work.
According to Reddit users, NordVPN delivers mixed results when bypassing online restrictions in the UAE. It works 100% of the time for some, while others have more difficulty unblocking certain services, such as BBC iPlayer. Thankfully, the wide range of features, servers, and tunneling protocols means users in the UAE can make various adjustments to find a configuration that works for them. Many users also recommend contacting NordVPN’s 24/7 customer support and reading their articles about using the service in places with internet restrictions.
Security and privacy features
Like any other high-quality VPN, NordVPN has all bases covered regarding technical security. Encryption is a combination of AES-256 and ChaCha20, which is an excellent balance between security and performance. Unlike other VPNs, NordVPN offers two kill switches – one for the entire internet connection and the other for individual apps. Both performed well in our tests, which are extensively covered in our NordVPN review.
NordVPN’s no-logs policy was independently audited six times as of April 2026 by Deloitte and PwC. More audits are undeniably better because they confirm the VPN adheres to its no-logging policies and hasn’t changed its ways. Regarding jurisdiction, NordVPN is based in Panama, an excellent country regarding user privacy due to its privacy laws and distance from the Fourteen Eyes alliance. Overall, there aren’t any significant drawbacks to NordVPN’s overall security practices, and you also get extra protection tools like Threat Protection, Dark Web Monitor Pro, and built-in scam-blocking features to help you avoid malware, data leaks, and phishing attempts.
Server availability and global coverage
NordVPN’s server network spans 9,500+ servers across 149 countries, which is impressive. The country variety is definitely one of the best, but overall server numbers are dwarfed by Proton VPN.
Another great benefit is several specialty server options for improved security and privacy. The most relevant categories for the UAE are Double VPN, obfuscated servers, and Onion over VPN. This is excellent because having more tools to tackle geographical restrictions is a substantial benefit for UAE VPNs. If these features aren’t enough, you could try using NordVPN’s unique Meshnet feature to change your IP address to one that belongs to another device outside the UAE.
Speed and performance
According to our most recent speed tests, NordVPN is the fastest VPN on the market. This can be largely attributed to its massive server fleet and unique NordLynx tunneling protocol. It’s based on the open-source WireGuard protocol, one of the most modern options for ensuring speedy and secure connections. You can switch to OpenVPN if NordLynx doesn’t suit your needs, and IKEv2 is also available on iOS devices.
During my evaluations, NordVPN easily maintained an average speed retention rate of 90%, which is more than enough for high-quality streaming, lag-free gaming, and quick webpage loading. I regularly use this VPN for my daily needs, and I practically never notice it running in the background. Naturally, your actual performance results depend on variables like your current location, the network you’re using, and how far the VPN server is.
Compatibility and ease of use
NordVPN, like any other VPN on this list, works with practically any device you can think of. You get the most comprehensive experience on the dedicated app, which is available for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS. Additionally, there are browser extensions for Chrome, Firefox, and Edge, but I wouldn’t recommend using those to bypass online restrictions because they’re just proxies, not fully-fledged VPNs.
As expected, NordVPN also supports manual router configuration, but it will run on the OpenVPN tunneling protocol. Still, it’s a great option to cover your entire household with a VPN connection. This method will also protect devices that don’t support VPN software, such as smart TVs and gaming consoles. Most importantly, NordVPN has detailed setup guides on its website that explain how to use NordVPN on more obscure devices like Raspberry Pi, Chromebook, and Chromecast.
Finally, NordVPN supports 10 simultaneous connections per account, which should be enough for most users. However, it’s less than with Surfshark and IPVanish, which permit unlimited device connections.
This VPN has been on the market for a while and thus had plenty of time to refine its various app interfaces and user experience. The main view is a world map that lets you browse and connect to server locations, with servers grouped by city in larger countries like the US so you can quickly find the best option. The latest redesign also adds a more interactive, full-screen map and a unified search bar, making it even easier to jump to specific locations or server types.
Other settings are also clearly labeled and easy to find. The only potential issue I can think of is NordVPN’s feature abundance, which could overwhelm newcomers.
Personal opinion
NordVPN is one of my favorite VPN services because of its overall quality and stellar performance in various categories. I’ve grown accustomed to it over the years, even though it has changed significantly during that time. The service has all the features I need and frequently surprises me with new, unique additions, such as the one-of-a-kind Meshnet. While it’s definitely a top-tier VPN for the UAE, it might be overwhelming for newcomers who aren’t ready to fully use the service’s numerous features.
2. Surfshark – affordable UAE VPN with unlimited connections

-
Compatibility
For me, Surfshark stands out as the most affordable UAE VPN without sacrificing its performance. For extra savings, use our Surfshark coupon code "OFFCN". In my testing, I noticed that this provider offers performance similar to NordVPN in terms of unblocking capabilities and speed. Plus, if you feel that NordVPN’s up to 10-device connection limit isn’t enough, you can get an unlimited-device connection with Surfshark. As for potential drawbacks, it has fewer servers, slightly slower speeds, and a different security feature arsenal.
Unblocking capabilities
During internal testing, Surfshark VPN’s ability to bypass restrictions was similar to NordVPN’s. I had no trouble accessing foreign movies, TV shows, restricted articles, and social media sites. With Surfshark, you can enable NoBorder and Camouflage modes to improve your chances of unlocking certain content.
There’s also the customizable MultiHop feature if you want greater protection at the cost of performance. You should use WireGuard in most cases, but remember that Camouflage mode only works with OpenVPN.
Online forums don’t discuss Surfshark that much in the context of the UAE, but those that do usually have positive experiences. Some even say it’s the best VPN they’ve ever used, and they have never encountered any issues. As expected, one of its most appealing benefits is connecting an unlimited number of devices to one account.
Security and privacy features
Like NordVPN, Surfshark uses a combination of AES-256 and ChaCha20 encryption standards to keep user connections completely secure. An internet kill switch is included in almost every app to ensure your IP address won’t leak in case the VPN connection suddenly drops. In-house Surfshark tests showed that its kill switch is entirely reliable and effective.
Surfshark’s no-logs policy was independently audited once by Deloitte in 2023. Any number of independent audits is great, but I think a truly reliable VPN for the UAE should conduct more frequent ones to reassure users of its no-logs claims. NordVPN and ExpressVPN are great examples of reliable VPNs that conduct numerous independent audits of their technology.
Another minor issue is Surfshark’s jurisdiction in the Netherlands, which is a part of the Nine Eyes alliance. While this isn’t a major issue (especially since Surfshark’s no-logs policy was audited), it’s a step back regarding overall trustworthiness.
Server availability and global coverage
Surfshark offers 4,500+ servers across 100+ countries, which is a good selection but smaller than other providers in this list. The country variety is definitely great, but server numbers are lower than those of NordVPN, Cyberghost, and Proton VPN. Thankfully, this didn’t lead to any significant issues during our tests. Just remember that Surfshark’s IP address variety is slightly lower.
Surfshark has a few specialty server categories that are useful for bypassing restrictions in the UAE. However, it doesn’t have anything utilizing the Tor network like NordVPN’s Onion over VPN and Proton VPN’s Tor servers. Instead, Surfshark offers customizable MultiHop servers, which are an improvement over NordVPN’s predetermined Double VPN servers.
All Surfshark customers also gain Static IP servers, but I don’t think those will be useful in the UAE since the IPs are shared. Instead, you should invest in a dedicated IP if you need a unique and unchanging IP address in a particular country.
Speed and performance
Surfshark’s fastest available protocol is WireGuard, which led to roughly 93% speed retention rates during our speed tests. These are excellent results and ensure quick loading times and zero lag, regardless of what you’re doing in the UAE. The wide range of country options also means you’ll have no trouble finding a nearby server when traveling. If WireGuard doesn’t suit your needs, you can enable OpenVPN or IKEv2.
I noticed no speed issues while testing Surfshark VPN, no matter which nearby servers I picked. Naturally, there was a noticeable performance reduction when I used MultiHop servers, but that’s expected since your traffic is routed through two VPN servers.
Compatibility and ease of use
Surfshark is arguably the best UAE VPN regarding device compatibility. It supports unlimited device connections, an excellent perk shared only with IPVanish. Secondly, it has apps for practically every possible device and supports various manual configuration methods.
You can install Surfshark VPN directly on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, and iOS devices. Alternatively, you can install the browser extension on Chrome, Firefox, or Edge, giving you access to the improved CleanWeb 2.0. Some smart TVs, like Apple TV and Android TV, also have dedicated apps through their respective app stores.
Moreover, you can set up the VPN on your home router if you want to secure your entire home network and reap VPN benefits on every device. Finally, you can find loads of manual configuration guides on Surfshark’s website if you have more specific needs. There are guides for various gaming consoles, VR headsets, and the Raspberry Pi.
Surfshark’s app interface is minimalistic but intuitive. It doesn’t include a world map like NordVPN and Proton VPN do, but that doesn’t bother me. However, I know that some people prefer connecting to VPN servers without having to type in anything. Everything is labeled clearly, and most features have menus to keep the interface neat and uncluttered.
Personal opinion
Surfshark is an affordable VPN with excellent benefits. It’s cheap and supports unlimited device connections, providing greater value for your investment. I especially like its Alternative ID feature, which makes it much easier to stay anonymous online even when creating numerous accounts. Other optional perks offered by Surfshark include Search, Antivirus, Incogni, and Alert. Overall, these features are advantageous to the average user in terms of cybersecurity.
3. Proton VPN – privacy-focused Abu Dhabi and Dubai VPN

Security & privacy features

-
Performance
-
Compatibility
If you're privacy-conscious, Proton VPN is a perfect fit for the UAE. I really appreciate that it offers a free tier – a basic VPN version without charge – that you can use to bypass online restrictions. While this plan doesn't include many features, you do get unlimited data, meaning you can use it as long as you need. The paid plan is pricier than average, but I think it's worth it if you need strong privacy features.
Unblocking capabilities
Internal Proton VPN testing showed solid unblocking capabilities for various services. It worked well with streaming platforms, VoIP services, news websites, and video games. I can attribute these stellar results to the provider’s massive server network and wide range of features for bypassing online restrictions. For example, it offers Tor servers, Secure Core servers, the Stealth protocol, and alternative routing.
Proton VPN is a very popular VPN in the UAE, according to the number of forums discussing it. Users frequently choose it because it’s one of the few reliable free VPNs with unlimited bandwidth and solid unblocking results.
Security and privacy features
Proton VPN is one of the best VPNs for many security and privacy reasons. Like NordVPN and Surfshark, it uses AES-256 and ChaCha20 encryption to protect user connections. This combination ensures top-tier protection and slightly improved performance.
The service also includes an effective kill switch and DNS leak protection to keep your real IP address under wraps. I thoroughly tested these features, and the results are discussed in our Proton VPN review. Lastly, as of April 2025, Proton VPN has undergone three independent audits by Securitum of its no-logs policy.
Server availability and global coverage
Proton VPN has significantly increased its server network in recent years, and now it spans over 20,300 servers in 148 countries. It now outranks NordVPN regarding server numbers, while country variety is practically on par.
Moreover, unlike CyberGhost VPN, Proton VPN doesn’t shy away from mentioning exact server figures on its website. As such, it’s quite likely that Proton VPN has the most servers overall among my selected VPNs for the UAE and not CyberGhost.
Speed and performance
Like most VPNs, Proton VPN uses WireGuard as its fastest tunneling protocol. However, it also provides the unique VPN Accelerator feature, greatly improving efficiency and speed retention when connecting to distant servers. This, I believe, is especially handy for people in the UAE wanting to unblock content from far-away countries like the US or Canada.
Proton VPN maintained an average speed retention rate of roughly 85% during in-house tests. My tests with the VPN were also great, and there were almost no lagging issues.
Compatibility and ease of use
Like NordVPN, Proton VPN supports 10 simultaneous device connections per account. This is a solid amount that should be enough for most people. However, it’s less than the unlimited number that Surfshark and IPVanish offer.
For device compatibility, you can install Proton VPN directly on Windows, Linux, Mac, Android, iOS, Chromebook, Android TV, Fire TV, Chrome, and Firefox. Like IPVanish and NordVPN, Proton VPN’s interface includes a world map for more accessible server selection. As for other settings, they’re easy to find and enable.
Personal opinion
Proton VPN is one of my favorite VPNs in the industry. It focuses on security, anonymity, and transparency, while less-important things like streaming and convenience aren’t emphasized so much. I believe this should be vital to anyone looking for a VPN for the UAE.
4. CyberGhost – VPN for UAE with specialty servers
-
Security & privacy features
-
Server network
-
Performance
-
Compatibility
CyberGhost should be your go-to UAE VPN if you need more servers. Previously, the provider claimed to run a massive network of around 9,800+ servers, but now it no longer advertises these numbers, so it's unclear what the exact figures are. However, I doubt that they shrank significantly. Besides that, CyberGhost is also secure and affordable and offers various specialty servers for specific use cases.
Unblocking capabilities
CyberGhost VPN showed great results in internal geo-blocking tests due to its abundant server network and wide range of specialty server categories. It made the entire process more convenient because it was clear which servers I had to pick to unblock particular streaming services or websites.
However, one of the provider’s significant drawbacks is the lack of obfuscation features that other UAE VPNs have. This would also explain why the provider is rarely discussed online. Just like with IPVanish, CyberGhost also states that it has difficulty working in countries like the UAE.
Security and privacy features
Like IPVanish, CyberGhost VPN uses the AES-256 cipher to encrypt user traffic. It’s reliable and secure, just arguably not as fast as the ones that use ChaCha20. Unsurprisingly, the provider also includes a kill switch and DNS leak protection to prevent sensitive information leaks. Our research team tested these features for our CyberGhost VPN review, and everything worked as expected.
CyberGhost conducted two independent audits of its no-logs policy. That’s more than Surfshark, but less than IPVanish. Deloitte did both audits – one in 2022 and another in 2024. As I mentioned above, while evaluating IPVanish, the number could be higher to ensure more user privacy.
Server availability and global coverage
CyberGhost VPN offers an undisclosed number of servers across 100 countries. It used to claim to own around 9,800+, which is why I believe it’s fair to assume that it still owns an impressive number of servers. Still, this ambiguity means I can’t give CyberGhost an excellent score in this category.
One of CyberGhost’s most notable features is its impressive array of specialty server categories. For example, it offers specialized streaming and gaming servers, a unique perk among my recommended UAE VPNs. There are also the special NoSpy servers, which are based in Romania and operated directly by CyberGhost for improved security.
Speed and performance
Like most other VPNs on this list, CyberGhost offers WireGuard as its fastest VPN tunneling protocol. During our latest speed tests, the provider maintained an average speed retention rate of around 91%. It isn’t as fast as NordVPN or Surfshark, but that’s to be expected from such an affordable provider.
Compatibility and ease of use
CyberGhost has many apps and manual setup methods for the most popular devices. The service supports router configuration, so you could cover your entire home network with VPN benefits and secure devices that don’t support VPN apps. Besides that, the apps are easy to use and intuitive, meaning anyone can take full advantage of this service.
CyberGhost’s main drawback in this category is that it only supports 7 simultaneous connections per account. This is the lowest number on this UAE VPN list, but once again, I think it’s reasonable, considering the provider is among the cheapest VPNs on this list.
Personal opinion
I think CyberGhost VPN is one of the best overall options for people new to VPNs. Firstly, it’s very affordable, meaning you don’t need to spend much on an unfamiliar service. Secondly, it’s easy to use, and its server category selection makes it easy for anyone to find a great server that fits their needs.
5. IPVanish – solid UAE VPN for streaming content
-
Security & privacy features
-
Server network
-
Performance
-
Compatibility
The reason I picked IPVanish is because it feels like a strong middle ground between NordVPN and Surfshark in the UAE. From NordVPN, it takes the word-map interface and threat protection, which is great at blocking ads and malware while streaming content. It’s also as affordable as Surfshark and supports unlimited device connections. However, I can’t say I’m a fan of its small server fleet and the lack of extra features.
Unblocking capabilities
IPVanish worked well in our in-house tests, but it wasn’t particularly impressive. For starters, its lower server numbers limited my choice options. Moreover, bypassing online restrictions is only possible using Scramble OpenVPN traffic. Thankfully, it offers the WireGuard protocol, which should be better when dealing with online restrictions while keeping connection speeds fast.
Unfortunately, IPVanish has rarely been mentioned in online forums about UAE VPNs. Even worse, the provider itself claims that the IPVanish domain is frequently blocked in countries like the UAE. While this doesn’t mean the VPN doesn’t work in the UAE, it suggests that it isn’t the best option for this task.
Security and privacy features
IPVanish uses AES-256 encryption, meaning it’s marginally slower than NordVPN and Surfshark. However, this doesn’t cause any noticeable performance issues. As expected, there’s also a kill switch to ensure the protection of your IP address.
Following NordVPN’s and Surfshark’s example, IPVanish also has a no-logs policy. In February 2025, Schellman Compliance, LLC, independently audited it for the second time. I have mixed feelings about this fact since more frequent audits could ensure user privacy. On the last note, our research team tested the feature for our IPVanish review but found no problems with it.
Server availability and global coverage
IPVanish’s network spans 3,200+ servers across 113 countries, the lowest number of servers and countries on this list. There are plenty of servers across the US, Europe, and even Dubai, but options around the Middle East near the UAE are pretty low. Also, IPVanish doesn’t have specialty servers, making it more challenging to unblock content in the UAE.
Speed and performance
Like most other VPNs on this list, IPVanish’s fastest VPN tunneling protocol is WireGuard. The provider mustered an average speed retention rate of around 80% during our latest round of speed tests. As always, details vary based on your specific circumstances and the servers you connect to.
I imagine some users can have more difficulty finding optimal servers due to the provider’s low server numbers. Personally, I had no issues with IPVanish’s speeds because it offers plenty of server options near my location.
Compatibility and ease of use
IPVanish supports unlimited device connections and works with numerous devices, making it as great in the compatibility category as Surfshark. It works with computers (Windows, Linux, MacOS, Chrome OS), smartphones (Android, iOS), home devices like routers, and streaming devices like Apple TV and Fire TV.
IPVanish is definitely easy to use. Like NordVPN, its home screen features an interactive world map that allows you to click and drag to find your desired connection point. There’s also a separate menu where you can scroll through the available countries. Other menus are clearly labeled, and the apps are not overcrowded with features and settings.
Personal opinion
I think IPVanish is a solid, beginner-friendly VPN that can provide speedy connections and excellent online security for practically everyone. However, it lacks any notable special features that would set it apart from other VPNs on the market. Its relatively small server fleet and limited country variety are obvious drawbacks.
Comparing the best VPNs for the UAE and Dubai
| Rating | Global servers | Streaming | Compatibility | Price from | |
| NordVPN | 9,500+ servers in 149 countries | Netflix, Hulu, BBC iPlayer, Disney+, and more | Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS | $3.09/month | |
| Surfshark | 4,500+ servers in 100 countries | Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, and more | Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS | $1.99/month | |
| Proton VPN | 20,300+ servers in 148 countries | Netflix, BBC iPlayer, YouTube, HBO Max, Disney+ | Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS | $2.99/month | |
| CyberGhost | Undisclosed servers in 100 countries | Netflix, Hulu, BBC iPlayer, Disney+ | Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS | $1.75/month | |
| IPVanish | 3,200+ servers in 113 countries | Netflix, BBC iPlayer, YouTube, Disney+, Hulu, and more | Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, Linux | $2.19/month |
Is VPN illegal in the UAE?
No, VPN is not illegal in the UAE. UAE laws only consider it illegal when you’re using it to commit a crime. Therefore, if you try to access websites and services (such as VoIP apps) that the government prohibits, the punishment may include imprisonment for up to a month or financial penalties ranging from 500,000 to 2 million AED.
Two telecommunication companies, Etisalat and Du, are officially allowed to offer paid VoIP services in the UAE. Du follows the rules of the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority, which forces the company to block content that the UAE government prohibits.
As of April 2025, reportedly, there are 9.46 million active internet users in the UAE. According to the latest Statista data, around 42.3% of Emirati residents have used a VPN. Most likely, they’re using the services for basic tasks like unblocking extra Netflix content. In that case, there’s no need to worry about any repercussions. However, I recommend getting familiar with local restrictions and religious customs to stay on the right side of the law.
How to choose the right VPN for the UAE
Picking the right VPN for the UAE can save you tons of time, money, and energy. This West Asian country has many regulations and restrictions, so some VPNs might have connection issues or may not work in the area. Here’s an essential feature package that your VPN should have to work in the UAE:
- Obfuscated servers. Make sure the UAE VPN has VPN obfuscation. These servers hide the fact that you're using a VPN to reroute your traffic. It's essential for safe VPN usage, especially in countries like the UAE.
- Strong privacy practices. Look for a strict no-logs policy, RAM-only servers, and independent security audits to keep your online privacy to yourself.
- Fast and reliable speeds. All VPNs slow down your internet speed, but some do that almost insignificantly. So, you should definitely look for a UAE VPN with fast and reliable speeds.
- Global server network. Research whether the provider has a global server network. A wider server network makes a huge difference in your day-to-day usage, as it unlocks streaming libraries, gives access to geo-blocked websites and apps, and lets you shop for better prices in different regions.
- Unblocking capabilities. Read expert and user reviews on forums about their experience with unblocking services like Netflix or BBC iPlayer.
- Apps for all devices. Check whether a VPN is compatible with all platforms. Purchasing it and finding out later will be a waste of your money.
- Pricing. VPNs vary in pricing, so it's a good practice to compare costs in terms of performance. Also, you can always look for free trials and money-back guarantees to try the service first.
How we tested UAE VPNs
The Cybernews research team and I tested a wide range of VPNs to determine which are best at unblocking internet restrictions in the UAE. Since we couldn’t travel to the country for the most accurate results, I focused on overall geo-unblock capabilities. I also checked user feedback online to see whether these VPNs are frequently used in the UAE. Below is a detailed breakdown of our VPN testing criteria and the ranking weight of those features:
- Unblocking capabilities (30%). Although it's the most important aspect, it's pretty tricky to measure it, as there are many variables for unblocking online content. As such, I focused on evaluating specific features for bypassing geographical restrictions and user feedback on forums like Reddit.
- Security and privacy features (25%). The UAE imposes severe internet restrictions on accessing various websites. That means you need a strong VPN to remain undetected while using it in the UAE. So, I prioritized VPNs with robust security features and reliable privacy practices.
- Server availability and global coverage (20%). A wide array of servers ensure you’re not hindered by IP address blocking. Moreover, a diverse country selection provides access to more foreign content, and specialty servers make specific unblocking tasks easier. That’s why I prioritized overall server numbers, country variety, and specialty server availability.
- Speed and performance (10%). A VPN can guarantee speedy connections if it has numerous servers worldwide and tunneling protocols like WireGuard. However, I had to conduct in-house speed tests to ensure there weren’t any severe performance issues when enabling features for bypassing internet restrictions in the UAE.
- Personal opinion (10%). I shared some of my thoughts about these VPNs and mentioned what makes each one appealing to me. Naturally, these subjective opinions don’t have much impact on the overall ranking of these UAE VPNs.
- Compatibility and ease of use (5%). A VPN should offer easy-to-use apps for major devices and features for well-rounded protection. I evaluated these aspects but didn’t give them a lot of weight because they’re subjective.
I used a few desktop and mobile devices to test the VPNs in various circumstances. For Windows, I used a Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen2 running Windows 11. My Apple device was a MacBook Pro with macOS Sonoma 14.4.1, and my dedicated smartphone was a Nokia Smartphone with Android 12 OS.
Final verdict
Not every VPN works reliably in the United Arab Emirates, including cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi. To prevent connection problems or potential risks, you need a strong UAE VPN with advanced features. Look for options that offer obfuscated servers and a strict zero-knowledge framework. A good VPN should also allow you to use VoIP apps, stream international platforms, and access content without censorship blocks.
NordVPN stands out as the best VPN for the UAE. It is easy to install on all major devices and delivers strong security and privacy protections. At the same time, it reliably unblocks popular streaming services and gives you access to global content without restrictions.
