Crypto hacks exceed $300 million in a single month

Two significant phishing attacks netted hackers a whopping $293 million in August alone, making it the third worst month this year.

The ten biggest hacks in August totaled $313.86 million, blockchain security firm PeckShield announced. According to the company, two hacks, both phishing attacks, caused most of the losses.

The first resulted in a staggering $238 million bitcoin loss, while the second largest hack, a phishing attack, netted over $55 million in DAI stablecoin.

PechShield data reveals that August was among the most profitable months for attackers. The company’s data shows that only May and February surpassed August’s results, with losses standing at $574.6 million and $360.8 million, respectively.

April was the least favorable month for crypto hackers, with attackers netting a little over $60 million worth of crypto.
