Experimental state Liberland appoints crypto mogul Justin Sun as its PM

The 7 sq. km experimental micro-state Liberland, located between Croatia and Serbia, has announced the appointment of controversial crypto figure Justin Sun as its acting prime minister.

Justin Sun, the founder of the Tron (TRX) blockchain, won Liberland’s Congress election and was appointed as the head of government by President Vít Jedlička, the founder of Liberland.

According to the announcement, the election used a blockchain-based system that is "governed by a simple set of rules and was entirely algorithmic, providing transparency."

Sun is described as an "accomplished entrepreneur in the crypto space" and a "genuine doer." Liberland hopes that Sun, along with other new members of the country, will help advance its blockchain projects.

Sun is known for copying various crypto projects and engaging in multiple publicity stunts, including purchasing a lunch with legendary investor Warren Buffett.

He also served as Grenada's Permanent Representative to the World Trade Organization (WTO) from 2021 to 2023.

Meanwhile, Liberland, established in 2015, claims to be the first country to adopt bitcoin (BTC) as its official currency. The micro-state says its government has integrated BTC into everyday operations and uses the cryptocurrency as its reserve asset.

However, Liberland, situated on an island that is not claimed by either Croatia or Serbia, has not been recognized by any country.

As a result, El Salvador remains the first recognized country to have adopted BTC as legal tender.

Also, as reported by Cybernews, Croatian police, accompanied by forestry workers, raided Liberland in November 2023, seized SUPs, and confiscated food supplies.
