An X user has been creating Grand Theft Auto 6 videos and presenting them as leaked footage. This was supposedly just an experiment to show how realistic AI-generated content has become.
Convincing footage posing as leaked materials from Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 6 has been circulating on social media.
The X account “ZapActu GTA6” has been posting the videos, which have gotten hundreds of thousands of views.
However, the catch is that this isn’t real gameplay – it’s got nothing to do with the real Grand Theft Auto 6. It’s just AI-generated slop that has users questioning what’s real and what’s not.
One post, which has since been deleted, garnered approximately eight million views in just 24 hours.
A community note under the “leak” warned that this footage might not be authentic, but that did little to soften the blow for millions of GTA 6 fans, IGN reports.
The account has posted various videos in the style of GTA, which have also received tens of thousands of views, all in what IGN has called a desperate attempt to secure social media followers and Discord members.
Following the backlash from what users are calling AI slop, ZapActu GTA6 issued a statement that this wasn’t done with bad intentions.
The X user simply wanted to “observe people’s reactions and demonstrate how easy it has become in 2025 to blur the line between reality and AI-generated content,” the anonymous poster told IGN.
ZapActu also apologized for the misleading posts and vaguely justified their actions by saying that this was all an “experiment.”
While they claim that they never expected the videos to garner so much attention, it’s pretty hard to believe that “leaks” from a game that will most likely be the entertainment drop of the century wouldn’t go viral.
“I simply wanted to create something intriguing that could bring people together and spark discussion within the GTA 6 community. I genuinely never expected a single video to generate such massive engagement and reach.”
ZapActu backtracked and said that this was all a massive joke. “Sorry for the false hope. Lol”
While there was seemingly no word from the creators of GTA, leaks are particularly sensitive following the 2022 hack on Rockstar Games, which led to GTA 6 videos being leaked.
The game developer is perhaps on the paranoid side, as evidenced by the company firing over 30 employees for posting internal communications in a public forum.
Despite Rockstar Games’ hypervigilance when it comes to leaks, these fake leaks seemed to shake the community more, particularly after Rockstar Games announced that it would once again postpone the game's release.
