Nintendo has revealed that its Switch 2 console is the company’s best-selling game system ever, with 3.5 million units sold in just four days.
The new gaming device, released on June 5th, 2025, saw the “highest global sales level for any Nintendo hardware within the first four days,” Nintendo said in a news release.
The successor to the Nintendo Switch console, the Nintendo Switch 2, was and probably still is one of the most coveted consoles of the year, with orders being cancelled or disrupted in the US as the influx of users caused websites to crash.
Nintendo Japan President, Shuntaro Furukawa, even issued an apology via X, saying that over 2.2 million had applied for the lottery sale of the Switch 2 in Japan alone.

The Nintendo Switch 2 features an LCD display with a resolution of 1080p instead of 720p. The screen is 7.9” and offers support for high dynamic range (HDR) and a refresh rate of 120Hz.
You can enjoy various reimagined classic games, which can be played at up to a 4K resolution at 60fps when using the dock.
The Nintendo Switch 2 has 256GB of onboard storage, a considerable upgrade from the first edition, which only had 32 GB.
However, the Switch 2 no longer supports regular microSD cards that give users additional storage. Instead, it requires microSD Express cards, which are faster.

Many more new features have transformed a beloved console into Nintendo’s most coveted product.
Yet, some weren’t happy with their purchase. One gamer received a punctured Switch 2 console after a stapler was used to attach store receipts directly onto the console's packaging.
The packaging was apparently so thin that by puncturing staples, employees damaged the box and even the device’s screen.
