Not the unboxing you’d expect: GameStop customers get punctured Nintendo Switch 2

Not all Nintendo Switch 2 users were instantly happy with their latest purchase from GameStop.

On June 5th, Nintendo Switch 2 fans were finally able to get the latest gaming console. However, for some, the purchase didn’t go smoothly.

Some devices from GameStop, an electronics retail company, have already been received damaged. The reason behind this was the staples used to attach store receipts to the boxes.

It’s been reported that the package is so thin that by puncturing staples, employees damage the box and even the device’s screen.

Customers who found their Nintendo Switch damaged shared the situation on X.

“@gamestop stapled the receipt for me and my friends Switch 2s to the box,” wrote Oadhan Lynch, a user on X with more posts from people who were having the same problem following.

“Genuinely insane now I’m gonna have to wait 3 months for the restock,” continued the user. It’s been reported that the shortage of gaming consoles is “widely expected.”

The scratched devices come from GameStop, which is located in New York. It’s not yet known how many Nintendo Switch gaming consoles have been damaged this way.

It seems that the flawed devices are working, despite having two small holes in their LDC panel.

The X user, Oadhan Lynch, later shared an update stating that GameStop issued replacements to everyone affected by this situation.

Nintendo Switch 2, priced at $450, features a bigger LCD screen with 120Hz, a new custom Nvidia chip, and upgraded Joy-Cons 2 joysticks.
