Germany weighs social media ban, warning media literacy can’t keep up

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's Christian Democrat Union is considering limiting access to social media platforms for children under the age of 16, senior party members said, as a global movement towards tighter restrictions gathers pace.

CDU to discuss social media minimum age at party conference

"A statutory minimum age of 16 for open platforms, accompanied by mandatory age verification, sets a clear protective boundary and takes into account the special developmental needs of young people," Bild quoted the motion as saying.
