Bitwarden announces Cupid Vault secure password-sharing feature for free users

Password manager Bitwarden has announced a new feature to share passwords with trusted people: Cupid Vault.

Bitwarden’s newest password-sharing option provides a secure and convenient way of sharing login credentials with friends, partners, family, and other loved ones.

Cupid Vault essentially works by creating a two-person shared vault, which Bitwarden calls an Organization. This allows one person to assign logins to a vault that can be shared with another person. The shared vault is completely isolated from your personal vault.

When someone sets up a shared vault, they can invite a second person to see their shared credentials. If circumstances ever change, for example, when someone breaks up, the first person can stop sharing their login information with the other person at any time.

To invite someone to an Organization, you open the password manager’s web interface and press the ‘New Organization’ button. Next, you press the ‘Invite member’ button to ask another person to join the Organization.

Once you're both members, simply add logins to a shared space called a Collection. Only the items within a shared Collection will be visible to both of you.

If the relationship changes between you and the other person, you can remove this person from the Collection by pressing the delete button. “It’s like a breakup button, but for passwords,” Bitwarden says. Don’t forget to change the password after you revoke the other person's access!

The Cupid Vault feature is available to all users and can be set up with a free plan. There’s a catch: free users can only set up two collections with two users each.

The new password-sharing service is redundant for Family, Teams, and Enterprise users, as they can already set up multiple collections and users.
