Apple’s new “Little Finder Guy” is cute, but is it just another example of AI slop?

Apple’s latest mascot, “Little Finder Guy,” is adorable. But what do we know about this little animation?
“If Finder Guy isn’t the new animation for Siri, we riot,” said one Reddit user commenting on the r/mac subreddit.
The “Finder Guy” in question is Apple’s new unofficial mascot, who has been featured in promotional videos for the tech giant’s latest product, the MacBook Neo.
Apple has taken to TikTok, of all places, to promote its new product, and what users have dubbed the “Little Finder Guy” has been popping up all over the place.
In one TikTok video, the little mascot can be seen in the top-left corner of the screen alongside the new MacBook’s specifications.
TikTok users instantly pointed out the new animation, asking what he is and why he is so cute.
“Why is no one talking about this, buddy?” said one TikTok user, and another person plainly asked, “Who is this?”
Reddit and TikTok users alike discovered that the animation, akin to Microsoft’s Clippy, is a 3D rendering of Apple’s Finder feature.
Finder is Apple’s default document management system and home base for Mac users. Here, users can find their files, apps, and shared documents all in one place.
By animating Finder, Apple has indirectly created a new mascot for its product, which users have fallen in love with.
“He’s just 1 apple tall,” said one X user who had screenshoted a clip from Apple’s live stream of “Little Finder Guy” sitting at a tiny desk, on a miniature Macbook, while drinking a suspicious green drink – potentially matcha.
One X user even made the little guy, known affectionately by some as “Findie,” a life partner.
However, Reddit users have criticized Apple for its poor design choices, continuity errors, and accused the tech giant of generating AI slop.
One user highlighted the fact that the Finder sign is two faces, one representing the user, and the other representing the computer.
This caused the thread to erupt into debate and seemingly encouraged veteran Apple users to further criticize Apple for its lazy marketing practices.
“Yeah, it breaks down (the Finder animation) as soon as you know that. I presume, however, the target market does not give a damn.”

While users do agree that Apple’s little guy is cute, they also suggested that it's an example of AI slop.
“AI slop creators don't give a damn,” said one user commenting on the continuity error within Little Guy's design.
“Lol This iteration seems like the representation of our schizophrenic digital and real-life personas today,” comments another Reddit user.
This comment seems apt, as according to Apple’s old brand identity, the Finder icon was created with the computer and user in mind.
“The interplay between the face of the computer and the profile of the user reinforces the idea of a special relationship, a partnership, between people and their computers.”
This little guy caused so much of a stir on socials that the “Basic Apple Guy” blog covered what he could of the Little Finder’s lore.
While there is limited information available on Apple’s new character, the blogger set out to “build a life for this mysterious little creature,” to avoid “doing anything productive or tending to (his) adult responsibilities.”
Using Google’s Gemini, the Apple blogger created renderings of the little guy's body from a single TikTok post.
From there, the blogger generated “Little Finder Guy” in various scenarios, whether he be angry or laughing, running or jumping.
“Of course, this is all abstraction stacked on abstraction at this point. I do not know if Lil Finder Guy can laugh, what it finds funny, or whether its short, knee-less legs are even capable of jumping,” Basic Apple Guy promptly admitted in his blog post.
While the story of “Little Finder Guy” or “Findie” remains a mystery, the blogger suggests that this won’t be the last we’ll see of the little mascot.
The blog itself is popular among other Apple fanatics, as in 2025, Basic Apple Guy received roughly 3 million hits, and the blogger’s X account has roughly 400,000 followers.
