Netflix will stop casting to these TVs, unless you pay more

Netflix has quietly updated its support for Google Cast, which might change how you cast your favourite shows and films, unless you pay for a more expensive subscription.

The streaming giant has just changed the way that users can stream their service through casting services.

Once upon a time, users could cast Netflix to their TVs via mobile apps. Now, as Netflix is seemingly paranoid about password and account sharing, the platform has changed the way casters will stream the service.

Netflix’s support page now states that subscribers with ads won’t be able to use “TV as a display for Netflix content playing on your mobile device (casting or mirroring),” as spotted by Android Authority.

The Cybernews community is talking about this. Be a part of the conversation.

“If you're looking to cast from your mobile device to your TV or a device connected to your TV, check the list of compatible devices below. If it isn't listed, you'll need to use a physical remote to navigate the Netflix app,” the Netflix support page reads.

The platform has recently updated its list of compatible devices:

  • Chromecast 3rd gen or older
  • Google Nest Hub Smart Display
  • Select cast-enabled Vizio TVs
  • Select cast-enabled Compal TVs

Users aren’t happy with Netflix

This is yet another annoyance to users caused by Netflix.

Reddit users were particularly irritated by this change, as users took to the platform to “rant.”

“(RANT) Netflix no longer has casting support. You must now use the app directly on the streamer without your phone,” one Redditor posted.

“I'm annoyed, as chromecasting is the main way that I watch streaming. It gives me all of the control to use my phone as a remote control, and searching for stuff is so much easier.”

One user responded saying, “I did not believe this at first, but sure enough, I've got the same issue, and if this continues, I will cancel Netflix.”

Another user asked why this issue doesn’t have more media coverage, as “this is a massive deal for a lot of people.”

Many users reported that using their phones to navigate Netflix while casting to a TV is much more convenient.

Some said that native or in-built SMART TV apps often lag, and controlling your Netflix from your phone is far faster.
