Tesla owner travels across US in self-driving mode

One man has seemingly made history by being the first person in the world to complete a fully autonomous coast-to-coast drive in the US, and Elon Musk is thrilled.

David Moss announced via Elon Musk’s X that he is the first person in the world to complete a coast-to-coast expedition from the Tesla Diner in Los Angeles to Myrtle Beach in South Carolina.

“I left the Tesla Diner in Los Angeles 2 days and 20 hours ago, and now have ended in Myrtle Beach, SC (2,732.4 miles),” Moss wrote on X.

Moss claims that this was achieved using Tesla’s FSD V14.2 and took “zero disengagements of any kind, even for all parking, including at Tesla Superchargers.”

To prove he had completed his epic quest, Moss added receipts to the thread, including a route map and charge stops, which showed how long he’d been on the road.

The X account, Whole Mars Catalog, which tracks Tesla driving miles, confirmed that FSD (full self-driving) data showed that Moss completed the coast-to-coast journey.

Moss noted that this journey was a part of a bigger series where he also successfully set the record for the amount of FSD miles in a row.

“Earlier this morning, December 30th, 2025, I crossed 10,000 consecutive miles of non-rounded-up actual, true 100% intervention-free FSD 14.2 driving in my 2025 Model 3 Premium Long Range RWD,” Moss posted to X.

“This journey has taken me to 24 states and has done all my driving for over the last month, including all parking & supercharger stops.”

Tesla CEO Elon Musk responded to Moss’s post with an underwhelming yet positive comment, which simply reads, “cool.”
