Video reveals how Tesla is ditching operators in its robotaxis

If you live in Austin, Texas and you see a Tesla without a person in it, you’re not just seeing things.

While Tesla’s robotaxis are already up and running, amid the further expansion, the company is now testing the services without people inside the car.

A video on X shows how a Tesla Model Y Robotaxi drives without any passengers in Austin, Texas.

The X account @@cb_doge shared how the car is roaming in the streets of Austin, with Elon Musk adding “Testing is underway with no occupants in the car.”

It’s been reported that the car is being used only for testing purposes and isn’t yet available for customers, shares Business Insider.

The company launched the Tesla robotaxi in June, but would always have an actual passenger in the seat to monitor the ride.

Now the recently shared video and Tesla’s CEO confirm that the robotaxi is being tested without these operators.

The news prompted varied reactions, with some viewing it as positive, while others had questions about its safety.

“Then who's responsible if it has an accident at-fault?” asked one of the users.

This question sparked a discussion, with some believing that in the event of an accident, the possibility of Tesla being at fault is low.

It isn’t the only safety-related change that Tesla cars are going through this month. It has been previously reported by some Tesla drivers that its recent Full Self-Driving (Supervised) (FSD) software system update allows users to text and drive.

However, the new update started a debate since most US states have laws against using devices while driving.

When it comes to Tesla’s robotaxi, which also uses the same FSD software, it has been under scrutiny for allegedly using the wrong lane and speeding by another driverless vehicle.
