YouTube Music puts a limit on your free sing-alongs

If you use YouTube Music for your karaoke parties, you’ll need to pay up unless you know the lyrics to your favourite songs by heart.

Those who use the YouTube Music platform for free will have a limited number of times they can view lyrics.

The reason for this change is to encourage more people to upgrade to YouTube Premium.

Previously, lyrics were available to all YouTube Music mobile users without any restrictions. However, this has recently started to change.

While those still using the free YouTube Music tier can still see lyrics for the songs they’re playing, this feature is limited to a certain number of plays.

Once a user is nearing the end of their “free” lyrics, the app displays how many views they have left.

While it’s not yet known how many free views YouTube Music provides, PC Mag reports it could be up to five.

This change in the app sparked an online discussion, with one Redditor sharing the warning they received from YouTube Music.

It states: “You have 0 views remaining. Unlock lyrics with Premium.”

The screenshot also shows that only the two lines of the lyrics are visible, with the rest blurred out.

Some users note that the company has been testing this restriction for a while.

In the US, YouTube Music Premium costs $11 per month with a 1-month free trial. The Family plan costs $17 per month, and the student account costs $5.50 per month.

With YouTube Music Premium, users can listen to music ad-free, with background play and offline downloading available. It also provides users with higher-quality audio and, in some countries, with an AI-powered feature called “Ask Music.”
