Traveling can be stressful, and high roaming charges definitely are a part of that. In the past, if you didn't have a good roaming plan, you'd have to find a local SIM card, if at all available. Luckily, in the last few years, phones have added an eSIM functionality, allowing you to easily switch plans without having to find a physical card. eSIM providers offer affordable data plans all over the world.
During my Holafly eSIM review, I discovered it's one of a few eSIMs with unlimited data plans, so you don't have to worry about running out of gigabytes away from home. You can also create multiple eSIM profiles to get internet access on whatever device you pack.

Holafly pros and cons
How does Holafly work?
eSIM is a relatively new technology that's gradually becoming widespread. For example, in the US, Apple's iPhone 14, 15, and 16 models support only eSIMs and don’t have a physical SIM card slot. eSIM is soldered directly into the device and is manually configurable, which means you don’t have to rely on different SIM cards from mobile service providers.
For this reason, Holafly, among many other providers, sells eSIM data plans for international travelers. It cooperates with local mobile carriers to provide a reliable internet connection without expensive roaming charges. To put things into perspective, AT&T's unlimited data internet plan costs $12.00/day in Europe, compared to just $19.50 for 5 days using Holafly’s Europe bundle.
Unfortunately, Holafly has also been found to route its traffic through Chinese networks, which does raise serious privacy concerns, given the Chinese track record with privacy violations. Therefore, I recommend checking out other top-rated eSIM providers.
What type of plans does Holafly offer?
Holafly's plan variety is pretty big. Currently, it offers internet access in over 260 destinations, divided by countries, cities, and regions. Plus, it lets you choose the number of days you will be staying and sets the price accordingly.
Most eSIM providers offer plans priced per gigabyte. However, because Holafly offers unlimited data, its plans differ by duration, which is more convenient in my opinion. You can choose the exact duration of your plan, with discounts increasing the longer you stay. For example, internet access in Europe costs $19.50 for a 5-day plan – which is around $3.90/day – and the price goes down to $3.69/day if you order a 10-day plan – $36.90, in total.
Overall, Holafly is somewhat expensive. In comparison, you can get 1GB for 7 days in the US from Saily for just $3.79, which is cheaper if you stay within the bandwidth limits. Knowing how much data you will use lets you pick a more affordable provider and reserve more funds for entertainment.

Does Holafly allow phone calls?
While Holafly used to offer a phone number with some of its plans, this is no longer the case, as Holafly has now become a data-only eSIM. This means that, sadly, you won’t be able to perform phone calls in the traditional sense.
Fortunately, because Holafly ensures unlimited data, it is easy to make calls using WhatsApp, FaceTime, Google Hangouts, and similar apps. Therefore, even if you cannot use your actual phone number to call or text, you should have no trouble communicating with your family and friends while traveling.

Holafly alternatives
If you’re unsure whether Holafly is the right eSIM for you, there are a few alternatives you should consider. These include Saily, Airalo, and Jetpac.
Saily is my top overall pick for eSIMs. Created by the team behind NordVPN, it’s a reliable product that offers additional security features like a virtual location, web protection, and an ad blocker. Starting from $1.79GB, it’s easy to use and affordable, giving you everything you need on your travels.
Airalo is another solid pick, offering a reliable eSIM starting at $3.50/GB. Available in 200+ countries and regions, it’s a great choice thanks to its simple installation process and reliable 5G connections in many locations worldwide.
Jetpac is a great pick for travelers on a budget. Starting at $1.00/GB, it’s one of the cheapest eSIMs on the market, while keeping excellent performance and usability.
Holafly review: my final verdict
Holafly eSIM offers a reliable eSIM service when you need internet access abroad. Its unlimited data plans offer flexibility that other providers don’t. However, this comes at a higher price than that of most fixed data plan providers. I’m also concerned about the privacy aspect of using Holafly, due to its apparent use of Chinese servers for routing.
Overall, I find that Holafly is an okay choice for people who require large amounts of data on their travels. For most people, however, fixed data plans will be more affordable and more manageable than Holafly’s unlimited offer, which is why I recommend providers like Saily, Airalo, or Jetpac.

FAQ
Is Holafly good for travel?
Yes, Holafly is a reliable option for traveling, as it offers its services in over 260 countries and regions.
Does WhatsApp work with Holafly?
Yes, WhatsApp works perfectly with Holafly, like all other communication apps that require an internet connection. Furthermore, Holafly prioritizes WhatsApp as a customer service channel, and you can use the +16613848482 number for 24/7 support.
When to activate Holafly eSIM?
It's best to activate Holafly just before departing. Because Holafly activates immediately after setting it up and requires additional steps to delay it, it's very easy to activate it right after making a purchase. Activating it moments before leaving will save you internet access time and money.
What are the biggest disadvantages of Holafly?
The biggest disadvantage of Holafly is its pricing, and privacy concerns due to reports of it routing data through China. While unlimited data may seem attractive at first glance, most travelers don’t require much more than the offer from fixed data providers like Saily. For example, a 30-day Holafly plan in France will cost you $74.90, while Saily’s 30-day 20GB plan will cost you only $30.39. That should be more than enough for that time, especially if you have access to Wi-Fi during your travels, especially given the privacy concerns.
