1. IONOS – best cheap VPS in 2025

Starting price: | From $2.00/month |
Storage: | 10GB NVMe SSD |
CPU: | 1 Core |
RAM: | 1GB |
Best deal: | Get up to 91% OFF IONOS |
Starting at $2.00/month, IONOS offers the cheapest VPS hosting. Despite the low price tag, IONOS doesn’t compromise on speed or performance, offering a 99.99% uptime. Some of the key IONOS features include the more efficient NVMe SSD storage, unlimited bandwidth, full root access, and full virtualization. Albeit a small selection, data servers are available in the US and Europe.
Feature | Rating | Overview |
Plans and pricing | Starting at $2.00/month, IONOS is the cheapest VPS hosting on this list. The starting plans are quite limited in terms of hardware but offer enough for small businesses and developers.
Performance | Our tests have shown that IONOS maintains 99.99% uptime with only 3 outages that totaled to 3 minutes.
Ease of use | Easy to set up and use, even for those who have never dabbled in web hosting before. It includes the KVM console, cloud panel, full root access, and Plesk Obsidian.
Security | IONOS takes care of the basics such as wildcard SSL certificates, DDoS protection, and IDS/IPS. Additionally, you can manage your firewall settings and purchase cloud backup.
Customer support | 24/7 live chat and phone support for immediate assistance. I found the customer support agents to be helpful and quick to respond. In addition, there’s a comprehensive knowledge base where you can find answers to the most common questions. |
My experience with IONOS VPS
Getting started with VPS is fairly straightforward, and I found the interface easy to navigate. I appreciated the detailed guide to help me breeze through the setup process.
The cheapest VPS plan has very limited resources, so it’s not suitable for medium to large websites. I find it best for small projects, such as a growing online store or testing environment for developers.
While IONOS supports Windows for VPS, I was disappointed that it was significantly more expensive than the Linux version. However, this is usually the case with Windows VPS hosting, and if you’re looking for the most budget-friendly option, Linux is the way to go.
2. A2 Hosting – small business VPS for a low price

Starting price: | From $2.99/month |
Storage: | 25GB SSD |
CPU: | 1 Core |
RAM: | 1GB |
Best deal: | Get up to 66% OFF A2 Hosting VPS |
A2 Hosting is an excellent VPS host for growing businesses. Starting at just $2.99/month, A2 Hosting offers self-managed VPS plans with a 99.9% uptime guarantee. You can choose from WordPress, Drupal, and OpenCart auto-installers for easy installation as well as the Webuzo auto-installer and control panel for a smoother experience. Data centers are available in the US, Europe, and Asia, which is one continent more than what IONOS offers.
Although A2 Hosting provides both managed and unmanaged VPS hosting, unmanaged VPS is significantly cheaper but requires some technical know-how to manage.
Feature | Rating | Overview |
Plans and pricing | Managed and unmanaged plans are available. Unmanaged plans are the cheapest and start at $2.99/month. VPS plans are easy to upgrade and scale.
Performance | A2 Hosting promises a 99.9% uptime. Our in-house tests have verified this guarantee. In addition, Turbo servers guarantee a 20 times faster speed and improved performance.
Ease of use | Unmanaged VPS hosting is not beginner-friendly but includes a control panel.
Security | Covers the basics including SSL certificates, DDoS protection, and automatic backups at no extra cost.
Customer support | You can contact customer support via live chat or phone. However, it’s not as efficient as IONOS, and the wait times can get quite long. There’s also a knowledge base to rely on if you can’t get immediate assistance from support. |
My experience with A2 Hosting VPS
Unmanaged VPS hosting isn’t easy to set up for those who are not tech-savvy; therefore, I don’t recommend it to beginners. However, if you’re determined to give it a try as a newbie, there’s a quick start guide that I found quite useful. Full root access allowed me to configure the server environment right from the start, but the process requires some technical knowledge.
Unlike IONOS, A2 Hosting doesn’t support VPS hosting on Windows. So, if you can only host on Windows, A2 Hosting is not the web host for you.
3. InterServer – cheapest VPS that supports Windows

Starting price: | From $3.00/month |
Storage: | 15GB SSD |
CPU: | 1 Core |
RAM: | 1024MB |
Best deal: | Get Interserver VPS for just $3.00/month |
Starting at $5.00/month, InterServer has the cheapest Windows VPS hosting plan. With the Plesk control panel, admin access, and Windows Remote Desktop controls, InterServer delivers a reliable and flexible VPS hosting solution for Windows. This hosting type is partially managed, with InterServer handling basic server management.
Linux VPS hosting pricing starts at $3.00/month, which is on par with IONOS and A2 Hosting. The cheapest plans are unmanaged, while managed support is available with the Slice 4 plan or higher.
Feature | Rating | Overview |
Plans and pricing | InterServer offers three types of VPS hosting: Linux VPS, Windows VPS, and Storage VPS. Each of these types is then categorized into 8 slices based on the resources that they provide. The abundance of plans makes it easy to scale when you need more resources.
Performance | 99.9% uptime guarantee and an average uptime.
Ease of use | Not as easy to use as IONOS, but once you get past the learning curve, it gets pretty simple.
Security | Interserver covers the basics with SSL certificates, DDoS protection, firewall, and weekly backups.
Customer support | There’s 24/7 live chat, phone line, and email support. However, the quality of the support is unpredictable and greatly differs depending on the agent you get connected to. |
My experience with InterServer VPS
I found the interface to be quite outdated visually, but once you get the hang of things, it should be pretty easy to navigate and manage your server. In our InterServer review, we found the speed and overall performance to be average, with an uptime of 99.9%. I was a bit disappointed that InterServer has data centers only in the US; however it does operate all of them. All in all, InterServer VPS is great for small websites that are receiving more traffic, but I wouldn’t recommend it to VPS hosting beginners.
5. Kamatera – customizable VPS hosting on a budget

Starting price: | From $4.00/month |
Storage: | 20GB NVMe |
CPU: | 1 vCPU |
RAM: | 1GB |
Best deal: | Get Kamatera now, starting at only $4.00/month |
Kamatera stands out as an affordable cloud VPS hosting solution. Its most basic plan costs $4.00/month and will cover your basic needs; however, you can customize your own plan as well. The plans are highly scalable – you can configure server type, data center location, RAM, vCPU, NVMe storage (up to 4000GB), public IPs, and operating system.
Feature | Rating | Overview |
Plans and pricing | There are three basic plans, but they’re unmanaged and can be quite limited. For larger projects, you’ll need to customize your own plan, which can significantly increase the price.
Performance | Kamatera delivers excellent speeds, no matter which plan you choose.
Ease of use | The interface is clean, but server setup may be too complex for beginners.
Security | Covers the basics and more, including Cloud Firewall – an advanced security feature that protects against malware and hackers.
Customer support | 24/7 customer support via live chat, email, and phone line, along with a knowledge base. The support is quick and efficient, although it lacks friendliness. |
My experience with Kamatera VPS
Setting up Kamatera is fairly simple, with step-by-step guides on how to create a new server and connect to it on both Windows and Linux. It does require some technical knowledge, but it’s the same with every VPS hosting. Overall, I liked the interface as it was modern and easy to navigate.
One of the main downsides I noticed is that opting for a fully managed service significantly increases the price. So, if you’re not tech-savvy and can’t handle an unmanaged server, it’ll cost you.
5. Liquid Web – cheap VPS for mid-size to large businesses

Starting price: | From $5.00/month |
Storage: | 30GB SSD |
CPU: | 1 vCPU |
RAM: | 1GB |
Best deal: | Get up to 74% OFF Liquid Web VPS |
Liquid Web is the best cheap VPS hosting for growing businesses. Starting at just $5.00/month, Liquid Web offers a cost-efficient way to keep up with increased traffic and other demands of a growing business.
Feature | Rating | Overview |
Plans and pricing | The cheapest plan is self-managed,based on cloud, and has limited resources. If you need more, there are three more plans, however the prices are at least three times higher.
Performance | Overall good performance and average speeds. Plus 100% uptime guarantee.
Ease of use | Fast provisioning. Intuitive and clean interface; however, since Liquid Web provides rather advanced hosting, you will require some technical know-how to proceed.
Security | Standard security practices include SSL certificates, the default Standard ServerSecure security package on every server, and backups. There’s also an integrated firewall to safeguard against online threats.
Customer support | 24/7 live chat, phone line, and ticketing system are available. Customer support agents are efficient and quick to respond, but the quality of service can be a hit or miss depending on who you’re connected to. There’s also a knowledge base with answers to nearly any question you may have. |
My experience with Liquid Web VPS
Like most other VPS hosting providers, Liquid Web requires some technical knowledge to set up, especially for the cheapest self-managed server. The UI is modern, and I had no issues navigating it. I liked that even with the cheapest plan, you get a dedicated IP address at no extra cost. What’s more, a robust API and full root access are available for further server customization.
6. Hostinger – cheap VPS hosting with AI functionalities

Starting price: | From $4.64/month |
Storage: | 50GB NVMe |
CPU: | 1 vCPU core |
RAM: | 4GB |
Best deal: | Get up to 69% OFF Hostinger VPS |
Leading with AI technologies, Hostinger is a cheap VPS hosting for anyone who wants to experiment with AI. Starting at $4.64/month, Hostinger is a cheap VPS hosting solution with an AI assistant, AI firewall, and other AI-based tools.
Feature | Rating | Overview |
Plans and pricing | There are 4 VPS hosting plans with varying resources, all of which are self-managed. Additionally, you can’t customize your own plan as you can with other providers on this list.
Performance | 100% uptime, stable response times, and good speeds. Websites hosted in EU data centers were a bit slower during our in-house tests.
Ease of use | Hostinger is ideal for those just starting out with hosting.
Security | Basic security features plus AI-powered firewall and KVM virtualization.
Customer support | Customer support is available 24/7 via live chat, but it can be a bit too laid-back in providing actual help, often resorting to knowledge base links – though most answers can be found there. |
My experience with Hostinger VPS
Hostinger is a beginner-friendly hosting provider, and you can feel that in every aspect of the service. It provides a comprehensive step-by-step guide for nearly every process, from creating a new server to installing security measures to deploying web apps, making it easy to follow even for a complete beginners.
AI features are also designed to lighten the load, and while there are some cool things you can do with AI, Hostinger’s AI features aren’t particularly useful when it comes to VPS hosting. Furthermore, I found that Hostinger’s plans lack the resources other web hosts include, making Hostinger’s VPS hosting more suitable for personal projects and small businesses.
7. InMotion – reliable cheap VPS hosting

Starting price: | From $5.99/month |
Storage: | 160GB SSD |
CPU: | 4 vCPU |
RAM: | 8GB |
Best deal: | Get up to 78% OFF InMotion Hosting VPS |
While the most expensive on this list, InMotion provides reliable VPS hosting at just $5.99/month. With managed, unmanaged, cloud, WordPress, SSD- and NVMe-focused VPS hosting, InMotion caters to virtually every need. Data centers are available in the US and Europe.
Feature | Rating | Overview |
Plans and pricing | Not the cheapest VPS, but it offers some excellent deals with a broad range of commitment periods.
Performance | Reliable performance is backed by a 99.99% uptime guarantee.
Ease of use | Functional but cluttered – other VPS hosts on this list offer a more streamlined process for daily tasks.
Security | Covers the basics, such as SSH and DDoS protection, and includes advanced features like Server Snapshots.
Customer support | Great 24/7 customer support via live chat, phone, email, and even Skype, but you will receive a ton of promotional emails afterward. There’s also a comprehensive knowledge base. |
My experience with InMotion VPS
I found InMotion relatively easy to navigate, although it can feel clunky at times. I liked that you can choose from cPanel or Control Web Panel for easy management, although it costs extra. Plus, optimized configurations and the free website transfers streamline the entire setup process. The Backup manager is a great tool with a 1-click restore option (which can save you a lot of stress), but you will have to pay extra for it.
I was annoyed that, after contacting customer support, I was bombarded with promotional emails. Because of this, I don’t recommend providing your primary email address when contacting support.

How we tested and ranked the cheapest VPS hosting
To identify the best VPS hosting services, together with the Cybernews team, I began by reviewing 58 hosting providers and selected those that offer VPS hosting within the range of $2.00/month to $5.99/month. Each provider was assessed based on criteria relevant to VPS hosting, such as resource allocation, management features, and security. I narrowed this initial pool down to the best 7 providers for further review. Here's how I evaluated them:
- Price-to-value ratio (25%). I selected the cheapest VPS options that offer the best value for your money.
- Resources and scalability (20%). I analyzed the storage, RAM, CPU cores, and bandwidth offered by each VPS plan to ensure they meet varying project requirements and allow for easy scaling.
- Control panel usability (20%). I tested the usability of control panels (cPanel, custom dashboards), focusing on user-friendly interfaces, root access, and the availability of pre-installed panels.
- Security features (20%). I examined the security measures, including SSL certificates, firewalls, DDoS protection, and data privacy policies to ensure strong protection for your projects.
- Management options (10%). I compared the availability of unmanaged, semi-managed, and fully managed services to match users' technical expertise and support needs.
- Support (5%). I reviewed the quality of customer support, analyzing the availability, responsiveness, and helpfulness of the support teams.
Based on these factors, I ranked the providers from 1 to 7 to ensure you get reliable and secure VPS hosting recommendations.
Do you need a VPS?
VPS is essential for projects that need more control and resources than shared hosting can offer. Root access is a key feature, allowing users to configure the server environment to fit specific needs – whether that’s installing custom software (like Apache, MongoDB, or UFW), running web applications, or managing databases.
Projects like eCommerce sites or high-traffic websites will benefit most from VPS, as it provides dedicated CPU, RAM, and storage resources, ensuring your site runs smoothly even during peak traffic times. VPS is also ideal for users who need to manage multiple domains, handle sensitive data, or require more security than shared hosting can offer. Additionally, resource-heavy applications like game servers, private email systems, or project management tools thrive on VPS due to its scalability and enhanced performance capabilities.
Why is VPS so expensive?
Simply put, VPS hosting is more expensive than shared hosting because it provides you with more resources. These include dedicated CPU cores, RAM, storage, and root access, among other features. This ensures better performance, higher security, and more control over your dedicated server environment. VPS is ideal for growing websites that are receiving more traffic or have content that demands additional resources.
Best cheap VPS: final recommendations
All in all, VPS hosting is a necessary step up for growing websites. Upgrade to VPS if your website is receiving an influx of traffic or if you require more control over your server.
I recommend IONOS as the best cheap VPS hosting. At just $2.00/month, IONOS offers fast storage, ample resources, and advanced security features. With its user-friendly interface, it’s especially great for beginners. If you’re looking for more scalable options or additional resources, check out A2 Hosting, Kamatera, or any other web hosting provider on our list.
FAQ
Can I get VPS for free?
Fully free VPS is rare, but some providers offer money-back guarantees or free trials. IONOS allows you to test its services with a 30-day money-back guarantee, making it risk-free to try.
Is VPS faster than cloud?
VPS can be faster than cloud hosting in certain scenarios, especially when resources are dedicated. However, cloud hosting is often more scalable and resilient, which may result in better performance for large-scale applications.
Is VPS better than dedicated?
VPS hosting is an affordable option that provides a good mix of performance and cost-efficiency. While the server resources are shared, virtualization ensures each VPS operates independently with its own dedicated resources. On the other hand, dedicated hosting delivers maximum capacity and control, but this comes with a significantly higher cost.
What is the price of VPS?
VPS pricing varies, with low-cost options starting around $2.00 per month for unmanaged plans and fully managed plans ranging from $10 to $100 per month, depending on the provider.
