Marks & Spencer’s online shop now fully operational after cyberattack


Almost four months after Marks & Spencer was hit with a cyberattack, the retailer’s online shop is now fully operational.

“Click and Collect is back! Our full online delivery offer is back, including Click & Collect, across Fashion, Home & Beauty on M&S.com,” John Lyttle, Managing Director Fashion, Home & Beauty at Marks & Spencer, says on Instagram.

“You can now order online for collection from any M&S store across the UK or choose Next Day or Nominated Day Delivery. You can also now return your online order to any M&S store. A huge thank you for your support and for shopping with us,” he continues.

The return of Marks & Spencer’s Click and Collect service will surely be a welcome relief to both the retailer and its customers.

In April, Marks & Spencer announced that it had been dealing with a “cybersecurity incident.”

The incident had a major impact on the company’s contactless payment system and caused its in-store pickup purchases to go offline. Stores remained open, and Marks & Spencer’s website and app continued to operate as normal.

Forty-six days after the attack, Marks & Spencer resumed online clothing orders. However, the retailer wasn’t able to restore Click and Collect services at the time. As of Monday, almost four months after the cyberattack took place, Marks & Spencer’s online store has now fully recovered.

Last month, Stuart Machin, CEO of Marks & Spencer, told investors that the worst of the fallout from the ransomware attack would most likely be over by August. He also told stakeholders that the incident would likely cost the company about £300 million.

Furthermore, Machin said that Marks & Spencer had overcome many challenges in the last 140 years and would do so again.

“This incident is a bump in the road, and we will come out of this in better shape, and continue our plan to reshape Marks & Spencer for customers, colleagues, and shareholders,” he stated.
