Brat and it’s the same but it’s Halloween so it’s not: searches for Charli XCX-themed looks are off the charts on Pinterest, the company’s data shows.
The British singer’s dark and edgy style is now a phenomenon that defies seasonal trends, as the unapologetic, hedonistic energy of the brat summer is carrying over into fall.
Searches for “Charli XCX makeup” have skyrocketed by 2,345% on Pinterest, according to the company’s latest Halloween Trend Report, which noted the enduring allure of the singer’s “bold” aesthetic.
This, of course, means one thing: expect a lot of Charli XCX-inspired looks this Halloween. Think smoky eyes and dark outfits that may or may not incorporate brat’s signature sickly green or similarly ghastly colors in the style of the late 90s and early 00s.
The look has been variously described as “ugly chic” or “anti-fashion,” and is also more about the way you carry yourself than any particular trend.
“It can go that way, like, quiet luxury, but it can also be so, like, trashy,” Charli XCX explained in an interview with BBC.
Following an explosive summer that catapulted Charli XCX into the forefront of pop culture, the singer-songwriter is not letting the momentum go as she continues to tour the US with the Australian star Troye Sivan.
She is also releasing her new remix album called Brat and It's Completely Different but Also Still Brat later this week.

It girls and gothic glam
According to Pinterest’s report, interest in Charli XCX looks is part of a larger Halloween trend of “it girls” as users are also actively searching categories such as “Kesha Halloween costume” and “Ariana Grande bunny costume.”
Other pop stars that users are searching for Halloween style inspiration include Jhene Aiko, Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Rodrigo, and Priscilla Presley.
“Each of these ‘it girls’ offers unique, memorable looks, allowing fans to channel their favorite celebrities in style this Halloween,” Pinterest said.
“Gothic glam” is another big trend of the season, the platform said, noting a spike in searches for “clown makeup looks,” which surged 1870%, and “Sukuna makeup,” which recorded 1655% growth and refers to a popular manga character.
“Anime-inspired creations are making a strong impact, blending unique and imaginative elements into the gothic palette,” Pinterest said. Overall, gothic glam is having “a major moment” and men are also “getting in on the action,” it said.
Other trends this year include “beastly beauties” – or animal-inspired looks – and “nostalgic” characters from film and television favorites such as Wicked or Sex and the City. Sharkboy and Lavagirl, and Joker and Harley Quinn are among top couple costume ideas trending this year.
Nostalgia is the name of the game in Halloween decor as well, as “Zoomers and millennials grapple with adulthood,” Pinterest said, with its data showing a spike of interest in hippie-themed, disco, and 90s Halloween decorations.
Finally, when it comes to food, “festive and creative” twists on party classics will lead the way this season, with “ghost pizza” and “pumpkin s’mores cookies” among the most searched for.
