Google becomes the only search engine to show latest content from Reddit

Other search engines can pay to get recent content from the social network.

Reddit reportedly blocks most search engines and only allows Google and other browsers to see its recent content if they agree to a paid partnership.

This situation made Google become Reddit’s main search engine, giving it even more influence. Search engines such as Bing, Mojeek, and DuckDuckGo can no longer index or show the latest posts and comments found on Reddit.

Users who use one of these browsers to search Reddit won’t be able to see recent information, but only the content from the previous week, first reports 404media.

Reddit’s decision to block search engines was made to prevent companies from scrapping their data to train artificial intelligence (AI) models. However, this does not include Google, as this year Reddit and Alphabet sealed a deal that allows ChatGPT and other OpenAI products to be trained by content from the social media network.

The AI training issue has been circulating for a while now, with recent news related to YouTube being a target of tech giants, including Apple and NVIDIA, which used the platform’s content to train their AI models.
