Kim Kardashian missed out on $10M after advertising Tesla’s robot for free

Reality TV star turned entrepreneur Kim Kardashian has recently posted videos of her interactions with the latest Tesla products that debuted at the ‘We Robot’ event last month.

The reality TV star posted a clip captioned “Meet my new friend” to her 75 million followers on X. She’s referring to Tesla’s Optimus AI robot, which was everywhere at Warner Brothers Studios during the October, 2024 event.

In the video, Optimus makes a range of dynamic gestures that astonish the Skims entrepreneur.

It seems that Kim Kardashian was potentially invited to do some free advertising for one of her favorite brands, as prominent Tesla investor Sawyer Merritt suggested to his 774,000 X followers.

Merritt said that “considering Kim Kardashian makes about $2M per sponsored post, she did about $10M+ worth of free advertising for Tesla today to her 435 million followers between X and Instagram.”

Whether Optimus is being teleoperated isn’t explicitly stated. However, Merritt responded to a comment asking whether the bot the Kardashian is interacting with is autonomous saying that it’s likely being operated by someone else.

It’s apparent that the Optimus in the video doesn’t belong to Kim Kardashian, as she posted various other videos of Tesla’s latest products.

On her Instagram, Kim Kardashian posted stories to her almost 400 million followers showing a one-of-a-kind gold Optimus robot as well as what looks to be a gold version of the Cybercab, one of Tesla’s autonomous taxis.

Kim Kardashian describes the Cybercab as “insane” and says “So you just get in and there’s no driver?” to which someone replies “There’s no driver.”

The Cybercab and the latest version of Tesla’s Optimus robot powered (in part) by artificial intelligence debuted at the ‘We Robot’ event which caught media attention.

Like the robot in Kim K’s posts, many of the Tesla Optimus bots were controlled by humans at the ‘We Robot’ event, which disappointed many fans.

However, the billionaire Tesla CEO said that they have made strides in developing the Optimus bot and seemingly struck out against allegations by posting a video of what the robot can do autonomously. Musk also said that Optimus robots will cost around $20,000-$30,000.

During the event, Elon Musk explained that some of the new products like the Cybercab won’t be produced until 2027, which is still an optimistic timeframe. The price of the Cybercab is expected to be around $30,000, well within Kim Kardashian’s budget.
