Pope Leo’s wholesome Pokémon card signing goes viral

The newly appointed Pope met a bunch of European students. What he did during the meeting proves that the internet isn’t such a terrible place after all.

The Vatican’s newest pontiff, Pope Leo, has been making his rounds on the internet this week after making a move that was surely the highlight of the student’s entire year.

While other students reportedly brought traditional items to bless like rosaries, one student, whose online moniker is ReptileCake, presented Pope Leo with his Reverse Holo Popplio Pokémon card, Vice reports.

According to a Reddit post created by ReptileCake, the interaction was humorous and even made the newly appointed Pope chuckle, but only as a courtesy, the student speculated.

Apparently, Pope Leo isn’t aware of the Pokémon franchise or what a Pokémon card is, but he still passed it around to security to show off the new-fangled item.

On a thread found by Vice, a Redditor stated that the student would most likely sell the card.

However, ReptileCake said that he’s “never intending to get rid of the card” and that it’s a “personal artefact that (he) will cherish for eternity” in response.

Netizens’ reactions to Pope Leo signing the now-blessed Pokémon card were, as you'd expect, humorous.

Many users clocked onto what the Danish student was trying to do with this specific Pokémon card, as Popplio sounds very similar to Pope Leo. Good one.
