Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s engagement has internet users “down bad”

It’s official. The world’s most beloved pop star, Taylor Swift, and NFL football player, Travis Kelce, are engaged. Fans and foes took to the internet to discuss the news in the only way they know how, through memes.

Pop star Taylor Swift is getting engaged after a tumultuous and very public dating life, which served as inspiration for multiple albums.

Both Swift and her now fiancé, NFL footballer Travis Kelce, caught internet users off guard by posting the proposal to their Instagram accounts. With the comments turned off, of course.

The post, which garnered over 27 million likes on Instagram, is captioned, “Your English teacher, and your gym teacher are getting married.”

Many people have speculated on the caption saying that it’s a direct reference to Swift’s song “So High School,” dedicated to her now fiance.

The line, “You know how to ball, I know Aristotle,” seems to be what the pair are referring to in the caption, Cosmopolitan said.

The images show Swift and Kelce in a garden surrounded by flowers and a floral archway. The post also debuts Swift’s massive diamond engagement ring.

While comments have been turned off on both Swift and Kelce’s posts, the internet still couldn’t help but congratulate and simultaneously mock the pair's engagement.

One prolific X account, “greg,” posted what appears to be an AI-generated image with the caption “Taylor Swift going down the aisle at her wedding.”

The image shows a plane positioned in the middle of the aisle, with wedding guests positioned on either side.

This is clearly a jab at Swift’s flying habits, as Cybernews previously reported how Swift’s two private jets traveled 178,000 miles in 2023, according to an account tracking the singer’s carbon footprint.

While Greg mocks the pair on one social media platform, other people seem to be thrilled by the announcement over on Instagram.

The Instagram account “dude with the sign” swiftly uploaded an image of him holding a cardboard sign that says “So happy for The Swifts.”

Many of his followers were astounded by how quickly they caught the news. “How can you be so fast?” said one Instagram user, while others asked if he found out ahead of time, as they were “locked and loaded.”

“No one else is allowed to get engaged now for the rest of the year,” screamed the Instagram account “betches” after hearing the news.

The Instagram account posted a re-upload from an X (formerly Twitter) account known as “giftedswifted.”

“I’m so happy for my close personal friend Taylor Swift,” the Swift fan account said.

Another Taylor Swift fan account confessed that she didn’t want to work after hearing the news, saying, “You want me to work? Taylor Swift just told the world she is engaged to be married, and you want me to work?”

Husbands have even been reacting to the news, with one disgruntled partner expressing his disdain for the news.

“My irl reaction when my wife came running into the room to show me Taylor Swift got engaged.”

Even Donald Trump, one of Swift’s top critics, congratulated the couple on their engagement.

“Well, I wish them a lot of luck,” the president said, according to The Independent. Trump also said that Swift is a “terrific person,” despite his earlier critiques.

Trump has said a variety of different things about the pop star. One moment in particular occurred after Swift endorsed Kamala Harris, to which Trump said he hated the pop star.

If President Trump can be happy for the pair, I guess the rest of the internet can be as well.
