MAGA memes reveal insecurities surrounding Zohran Mamdani's victory
The new mayor of New York City, Zohran Mamdani, has caused quite a stir on social media, and the memes are out of control.
Zohran Mamdani made history by becoming the first Muslim mayor of New York City. Netizens responded the only way they know how, through memes.
Mamdani is not only New York’s youngest mayor since 1892, but he is also the city’s first Muslim mayor and the first mayor to be born in Africa.

Seemingly concerned for the state of New York City with Mamdani at the helm, social media users are retaliating.
Memes circulating showing the Statue of Liberty eating rice with her hands, and even Mamdani holding the bloodied head of a Lady Liberty in his hands, suggest that users believe this new Muslim mayor is the death of NYC.

The account, “what I meme to say,” also features other posts mocking Democrats in America.
The meme about Mamdani seems to suggest that this user fears the implications of electing a liberal, Muslim mayor, rather than poking fun at Mamdani himself.

Another user, a US Army veteran and public servant, seems to be suggesting that electing a Muslim mayor will kill NYC.
“Oh, of course, if Mamdani wins the NYC mayoral race, it’s basically Death to NYC as we know it,” the user said in the caption.
Social media posts about the new mayor, many of which were generated using AI, surfaced on platforms like X.
One video shows an animated Mamdani holding a flag with non-descript symbols posing as Arabic language.

The poster, which describes themself as “meme team for MAGA,” is perpetuating the blanket idea that all Muslims are terrorists.
Other memes weren’t so entrenched in Islamophobia. However, they do, once again, come from the MAGA crowd, who seem to suggest that all Democrats are perverse.
“Mamdani victory party happening now,” the right to bear memes X account said to their almost 665,000 followers.
The image shows a fly-on-the-wall view of inside a gay swinger party where everyone is naked.
The image also includes some Photoshop goats as attendees, a running joke presumably based on the idea that the goat is a sacred symbol in Islam.

Of course, the mythical memest “Sainthoax” uploaded a barrage of memes making fun of the MAGA crowd with the caption “permission to lib out: granted.”
The post says, “breaking: woke is back,” and shows a range of memes taunting Republicans.
“Put the pronouns back in the email,” says one meme, which shows a pride flag gun put to the back of someone's head.
“Arabic is now the official language of New York,” was another meme posted to the thread, along with two American women stating, “there is no God but Allah,” while the caption reads “New Yorkers waking up this morning.”
Not only did Mamdani receive a proverbial beating from social media users, but his wife also got the brunt of her husband’s victory.
“Mamdani’s wife’s 'art’ can only be described as the average doodling of a woke, moody 15-year-old girl,” said one podcaster and writer to her over 16,000 followers.
