“Once again tech is proving more reliable than humans:” user saved by iPhone during crash into boars

One iPhone user, who didn’t know that they had the SOS feature on, was glad it worked since no one stopped after the crash to check up on them.
While emergency features found in smartphones and watches are no longer a novelty, some stories shared by lucky users confirm how important and potentially life-saving they can be.
Such emergency features often prove useful when a user is off the grid and without a connection, as they can work through satellites.
Apple smartphones (starting with iPhone 14 models) and watches can also detect car crashes and hard falls. If a user is unresponsive, they automatically notify emergency services.
Users report multiple Apple Emergency SOS success cases
One Reddit user shared how the crash detection feature helped them after crashing their car while trying to avoid a family of wild boars.
“I was in the passenger seat, and it hit me pretty hard. People drove past us, someone was even behind us while it happened, but just passed us, but my iPhone called EMS,” explained the user.
“I did not even know that this was a thing, but wow, I'm glad because that was in the middle of nowhere on a completely dark road.”
The story started a discussion online, with many users surprised that multiple people saw what happened on the road and didn’t stop to help the user.
“I don’t understand how someone can just ignore a crash and drive past it,” wrote one netizen.
However, some users were quick to explain that not all states in the US have implemented the Good Samaritan Law, which protects people from being sued for providing first aid if the injured party thinks that they received the help wrong or were injured even more in the process.
This situation shows that it's best to keep the emergency features on even if you’re in well-located areas.

“Once again, tech is proving more reliable than humans,” noted one netizen.
The story prompted other users to share their success stories, which involved being rescued by an emergency SOS feature.
“I had a seizure while driving (undiagnosed epilepsy) and crashed my car into a lake. My phone called 911 while it was underwater, and it stayed underwater for hours until they pulled my car out. And it’s the same phone I’m typing on right now lol. Crazy,” shared one.
Emergency SOS feature on Apple devices
The Emergency SOS feature also proved to work in much worse conditions. It’s been previously reported that three stranded skiers were rescued after one of their Apple Watches sent an alert to emergency services after its owner fell 1000 feet and was injured.
Apple’s smartphones were also used after Hurricane Helene. After the hurricane struck, many people couldn’t connect to cellular networks or use WiFi. What helped in this case was the Satellite messaging feature that’s been available for iPhone 14 and newer models.
