Apple marks the public release of its AI and the launch of the latest 24-inch iMac desktop with an M4 chip.
It’s been speculated that Apple should present its latest Mac devices sometime at the end of October. The new computer lineup was supposed to include MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, and iMac. On Monday, the company ended those speculations by releasing a new iMac M4.
iMac M4 features
With the M4 chip, the new iMac is reported to be 1.7 times faster for daily tasks and 2.1 faster for tasks like photo editing and gaming compared with its predecessor with the M1 chip.
Its M4 chip comes with a Neural Engine that, according to Apple, is three times faster than the iMac M1 and ready to handle AI-related tasks.
Apple’s latest Mac also comes with an upgraded camera, a 12MP Center Stage camera with support for Desk View. The Center Stage features show users centered during a video call, while Desk View could be useful in online presentations as it shows the user “a top-down view of their desk.”
New iMac users in the US will also be able to employ Apple Intelligence features, which will be available with macOS Sequoia 15.1.
iMac M4 specifications
The new device comes with 16 GB of RAM, an upgrade from the previous 8 GB. Its base configuration includes an 8-core CPU and 8-core GPU with 256 GB of storage, while its high-tier models include a 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU, with the possibility of upgrading to 32 GB of RAM and up to 2 TB of storage.
All iMac models come with Four Thunderbolt 4 ports.
The device’s 24-inch 4.5K Retina display has a nano-texture glass option that “reduces reflections and glare.”
The new Apple iMac model is available in seven colors: green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver. Every device comes with a color-matched Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse or Magic Trackpad, which include a USB-C port.
The iMac's price starts at $1299, and pre-orders are taking place today. The device will be shipped to customers and available for purchase on November 8.
