More than half of AI-capable Apple and Samsung smartphone owners haven’t used their AI features yet.
Artificial intelligence has dominated the tech industry this year, prompting smartphone manufacturers to highlight AI as a key feature in their flagship devices. Companies including Apple, Samsung, and Google have all positioned AI tools as major selling points.
However, AI features seemingly aren’t what users really want – or use very often.
According to a survey of AI-capable device owners conducted by tech gadgets sales platform Sell Cell, 73% of iPhone users say that AI features have little to no value for them, while 86% of Samsung smartphone owners say the same thing about Galaxy’s AI.
Interestingly, out of around 1000 surveyed iPhone users, 58% claim to have not used the Apple Intelligence features at all. Apple publicly introduced Apple Intelligence this October via the iOS 18.1 update and is currently preparing another batch of features via the iOS 18.2 update.
Among the most used Apple Intelligence features users list writing tools (72%), notification summaries (54%), and priority messages (44.5%).
Meanwhile, the AI-enhanced Siri was used the least – by only 3.1% of respondents. For now, Apple's virtual assistant received only minor upgrades. Some changes, such as its ability to understand contextual information, will be announced only next year.
When asked about the top reasons for not having used AI features, 57.6% of iOS users listed not updating to the latest software, 36.7% said they do not find them useful, and 18.2% think the AI tools are inaccurate.
Similarly to Apple, over half (53.1%) of Samsung’s Galaxy smartphone users haven’t used any of the company's Galaxy AI features.
44.2% of Samsung’s smartphone owners said that they didn’t find the features useful, 35.5% cited inaccuracy, and 30.1% had privacy concerns stemming from AI.
The most used AI tools among Samsung device owners were Circle to Search (82.1%) photo editing suggestions (55.5%), and chat assist (28.8%).
The least used Samsung AI tools were real-time translations (1.1%) and the interpreter mode (1.3%).
Sell Cell says that it surveyed around 1,000 iPhone owners who have Apple Intelligence-supporting devices and 1,000 Galaxy AI-eligible smartphone users.
