MacBook owners are getting a happy ending to their class action lawsuit against Apple and its defective keyboards.
Two years ago, Apple was required to pay a $50 million settlement to MacBook owners who purchased a laptop from 2015 to 2019 and had problems with its keyboard.
The US federal court approved a $50 million class action lawsuit filed in 2018. The lawsuit, which included more than 86,000 claims, was approved last May.
Users who were impacted by faulty keyboards will receive settlements of between $50 to $395.
In 2015, Apple introduced a 12-inch MacBook equipped with a butterfly keyboard. Later, it was added to MacBook Pro in 2016 and MacBook Air in 2018.
Soon, however, the butterfly keyboard design proved faulty. Among the reported problems were double characters and sticky and unresponsive keys. Apple stopped using the butterfly design in 2019 and shifted to Magic Keyboard.
