The new smart home device may be launched this March, while the camera’s production is expected to begin in 2026.
Apple may unveil a new product category at its annual product release next spring. As previously rumored, it could be a smart home device, running on Apple Intelligence.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who shared new details about the product on X, the smart home device will feature a six-inch touch screen. This would make it slightly smaller than the iPad Mini or roughly double the size of an iPhone.
Even though the screen will be touch, the device, which will have speakers and a FaceTime camera, will reportedly mostly be controlled via Apple Intelligence's new feature called App Intents.
It will run on a new OS that blends watchOS and iOS StandBy Mode and will have several preinstalled apps including Safari, Music, and Notes, though there will be no App Store.
According to Gurman, one key feature of the device will be the ability to tap into video doorbells and cameras and receive security alerts. Overall, the device will have a heavy security focus.
Gurman also claims that the company is working on wall attachments and a speaker base for desks, tables, kitchens, and nightstands.
On Tuesday, another Apple analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, reported that Apple is preparing another product: a smart home IP camera designed to seamlessly integrate with other Apple products.
Little details are known about the camera. Kuo claims that its production is planned for 2026, while Apple’s long-term goal is more than 10 million units.
