Chromecast is getting a makeover as the Google TV upgrade will feature a new design and name change.
The pictures first shared by 9to5Google show that Chromecast’s original HDMI dongle, which is used to connect to a user's TV, will be replaced with a bigger white set-top box. The box also includes two cables, thought to be HDMI and power cords.
The setup will also include a remote that is reported to be similar to the pre-existing Chromecast remote control, only longer. Its button arrangement will change slightly, with the Google Assistant button being removed and changed with a regular microphone button.

While the “Google TV” name remains, the new streaming device removes the original “Chromecast” branding, leaving the new name as "Google TV Streamer." It’s not yet known whether the company will continue to sell devices under Chromecast with the Google TV name.
The first generation Chromecast was launched in 2013, with the last streaming device upgrade released in 2022.
More news about the new streaming device should be revealed during the Google event on August 13th, 2024. The company should present a series of products, including the Google Pixel 9, Google Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel Pro XL, and a new Pixel smartwatch.
