Users initiate class action lawsuit against Apple over AirPods Pro defects

Apple knew about the sound defects affecting its AirPods Pro 1 but continued to sell them anyway, users say.

Three users filed a class action lawsuit in the Northern District of California court, claiming that Apple knowingly sold its AirPods Pro with sound defects.

According to the users, after buying the earphones, which Apple released on October 30th, 2019, they experienced “static and crackling” sounds to either one or both of the earphones.

In some instances, Apple offered a replacement. However, the replaced earphones were also defective.

In addition to these complaints, there were many similar examples online.

“My right AirPods Pro has recently started making this noise where it kind of sounds like someone’s blowing on a microphone in transparency or noise canceling mode,” one reads.

According to the document, Apple admitted “static and crackling” sound issues on its support page.

However, the company continued to sell them, advertising the earphones as having noise-canceling features and superior sound compared to other headphones.

The users claim that Apple violated California’s consumer protection and warranty laws or/and the consumer protection and warranty laws of Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas.
