Google gives Fitbit users a deadline

Google has given Fitbit users a deadline to switch to a Google account. To keep using their devices, users must move to a Google account by February 2nd, 2026, at the latest.

“As we have previously shared, Fitbit is now a part of Google, and Fitbit account holders will need to transition to Google accounts to continue using Fitbit. If you want to keep using Fitbit, you must move to a Google account by February 2nd, 2026,” an email sent to Fitbit users says.

Fitbit was acquired by Google in 2021. One year after the acquisition, Google announced that Fitbit devices would eventually stop supporting Fitbit accounts. In addition, Google disclosed that starting in 2023, activating new Fitbit hardware (including the Pixel Watch 2 and Fitbit Charge 6), accessing new health features, or creating a Fitbit account would require a Google account.

The move of all Fitbit accounts to Google accounts was initially scheduled for 2025. For reasons unknown, this has been postponed to February 2026.

Users who don’t want to switch to a Google account can no longer use their Fitbit from February 3rd, 2026. They won’t be able to access their health data any longer, and their Fitbit account will be deleted on February 2nd, 2026. Users who don’t want to migrate can either download or delete their data before this deadline.

To move your Fitbit account to a Google account, you’ll have to open the Fitbit app, tap on the gear icon on the top right, tap Move Account, and follow the instructions on the screen. Once you move your Fitbit account to your Google account, you can’t undo this.

For more details on the switch, or how to export your Fitbit data, you can check the Fitbit Help Center.
