Google’s latest update for its Pixel devices might be a death knell for users' smartphones.
The Android 15 update recently started rolling out for Google’s Pixel devices.
The new update comes with new security features and camera, messaging, and passkey upgrades.
However, the latest software update has been causing some issues for Google Pixel 6 users. Some reported that the update caused their phones to brick.
The Google Pixel 6 was launched in 2021, and software updates were guaranteed for at least five years from its first release in the US.
The situation was first shared on Reddit by a Google Pixel 6 smartphone user whose phone died during the setup of Android’s Space Feature, which allows users to create a separate space for important apps, media, and files.
At first, only a few people experienced their phone going “completely dead,” but others soon started reporting the same problem.
This isn’t the first time an Android software update has caused smartphones to glitch. When the Android 14 update was released, it locked some users out of their storage, and later this year, the same Google Pixel 6 model was reported unresponsive after the factory reset.
“This is like the third version of Android, where I, as a Pixel 6 user, have to be cautious to not brick my phone,” another Reddit user noted.
It’s not yet known what’s causing the Pixel 6 smartphones to shut down, but those who were affected by the update recommend holding off on updating Pixel devices. Users of other Google Pixel models haven’t reported having similar issues.
Cybernews has reached out to the company for comment on the situation and will update with a response.
