Huawei to be the first company to release a tri-fold smartphone


Users who want bigger screens can look forward to Huawei’s new phone later this year.

Competition never sleeps, especially in the tech world. Despite Samsung's recent release of a line of new products in three different categories during its Unpacked event, the company was speculated to be among the first to launch the first tri-fold smartphone.

However, despite the recent debate, the latest news shows that Huawei is taking the lead.

During a live broadcast about Huawei’s research and development, Yu Chengdong, CEO of the Consumer BG at Huawei Technologies, revealed that a trifold smartphone will be among Huawei’s upcoming devices.

The world’s first tri-fold phone will be 10 inches long and fold inside. The new model should expand a phone's capabilities since, with a bigger screen, it can also serve as a tablet, reports ChinaZ via PatentlyApple.

The new smartphone is expected to be released in September of this year, the same month Apple will release its latest iPhone model. Details also reveal the cost of the new device. The tri-fold phone should cost 20,000 yuan ($2,700).
