LG has been showing ads on its TV screensavers, and older devices won’t be able to escape it.
It was reported last month that LG’s latest smart TVs, including the premium OLED models, started displaying ads when the device was in idle mode.
According to FlatpanelsHD, the same feature has now been added to older LG TVs dating back to 2020.
It was confirmed that the screensaver ads are now running on LG GX OLED (2020 generation), LG B1 OLED (2021 generation), and LG B2 OLED (2022 generation) models.
LG TV users bought older devices without the feature, and the webOS upgrade didn’t include information about the ad implementation. Needless to say, the changes have come as a surprise.
Nevertheless, the screensaver ads can be disabled for now by going to “Settings,” finding “Additional Settings,” and disabling “Screen Saver Promotion.”
LG is one of several companies, including Amazon with Fire TV, Google TV, and Roku, a TV streaming platform, that uses screen inactivity to show ads.
