South Korean smartphone manufacturer LG will no longer provide Over-The-Air (OTA) updates for its smartphones. June 30th, 2025, is the last chance you’ll have to download and install an update for your device, if one is available.
In an online support page, LG recommends that users install a software update for their smartphones before the end of next month. After June 30th, 2025, the company will no longer offer so-called OTA updates.
All servers that store security updates and operating system upgrades will be taken offline. The LG Bridge application will also stop functioning. This program helps users make backups of their phone and restore their device. It’s also used for installing updates on LG phones.
“After the termination of this service, it will no longer provide software upgrade services. If necessary, please upgrade the software before the service is terminated on June 30, 2025,” LG says on its support page.
LG has a long tradition of making smartphones and being a pioneer in the industry. To many, it came as a shock when the South Korean tech company announced in 2021 it would no longer produce and manufacture phones.
LG had an impressive line-up of smartphones over the years. Take the LG Nexus 5, for example, which was sold by Google but manufactured by LG in 2013. It was LG’s first phone that was shipped with the Google Now Launcher, which offered a redesigned home screen and a stock Android experience.
Or how about the LG G Flex, LG’s first smartphone with a curved screen, so it would fit nicely into your hands? Although it didn’t catch on with the public, it was a daring experiment.
We also have to mention the LG G5, which would set the stage for a modular approach that other manufacturers would later adopt in their phone designs, like the Motorola Moto Z series, or the recently announced CMF Phone 2.
And lastly, the LG Wing, which was launched late in 2020. It would ultimately be LG’s last flagship phone with a radical design, thanks to its swivel-screen.
