Paint 3D is among a few apps that haven’t made the cut with Microsoft and will be discontinued shortly.
Paint 3D is counting its last days, with Microsoft deciding to suspend the feature on November 4th, 2024.
The Paint 3D application is an upgraded version of the original Paint, which was introduced in 2016.
The news was shared by X (formerly Twitter) user @phantomofearth, who, while using the app, noticed a banner stating, “3D won’t be available in the Microsoft Store or receive future updates starting November 4th, 2024.”

Microsoft confirmed the news after users questioned the situation.
“Microsoft decided to discontinue Paint 3D because it didn’t gain much traction among users. Initially introduced in 2017, Paint 3D was meant to replace the classic Paint app and focus on 3D content creation. However, most users preferred the simplicity of the original Paint app and didn’t find much use for the 3D features,” explained the company’s vendor.
Paint 3D was created as a more equipped replacement for Paint, providing users with tools for 3D modeling, layering, transparency, and auto background removal. However, the upgraded variant didn’t stick with users who seemed to prefer the original Microsoft Paint application.
Paint isn’t the only app that Microsoft has decided to end, with the company confirming that its WordPad will also be suspended in the fall.
