This Android-based e-reader features the latest E Ink display technology.
Many people automatically associate the Kindle with e-readers in general – as a brand, it has a firm hold on the market. But for those looking for alternatives (which can often be better), Onyx, a company based in China, has recently released its latest e-reader, the Onyx Boox Go 6.
This six-inch device has the latest E Ink Carta 1300 display, runs on Android and includes 32GB storage.
Since it runs on Android software, the e-reader is compatible with the NeoReader reading app and provides access to the Google Play Store. This means that users can download their preferred reading apps, browse the web, and listen to audiobooks.
The device also supports 26 document formats.
Among other features, Onyx Boox Go 6 allows users to highlight text, annotate, adjust layout, use text-to-speech (TTS), and choose light or dark mode.
The device costs $150 and is already available to order. Shipments are planned for the middle of September.
The launch of the new Onyx e-reader sparked a discussion online, with many comparing it with its other models.
Some Redditors were interested in its battery life, with one user sharing their experience using the device: “Considering how small it is, it'll probably get a good two weeks on its battery. If you're reading two to three hours a day, but that's just my prediction. I get a similar time on my Palma, and the battery isn't much different. So far, I haven't gotten a slow Boox, nothing abnormally slow anyway, so I can't imagine this would be either.”
The company's battery specifications show that the e-reader is equipped with a 1500mAh battery that a user can “charge once and read for days.”
