Samsung might bring its flip phone to the gaming industry, patent suggests

The gaming industry might soon see another company making handheld gaming consoles.

Samsung is a leading company in the foldable smartphone market, and a new patent suggests that it might also apply its know-how to other device categories.

The company filed a patent for an “Electronic games console.” Samsung is already known as the manufacturer of the Nintendo Switch OLED display.

Now, the company seems to be working on its own gaming console.

The patent drawings reveal that it could be a foldable gaming device, with its design reminiscent of Samsung’s foldable Galaxy Z Flip 6 smartphone, which was released earlier this year.

Because it can fold, the device can be easily portable and carried in one’s pocket without needing to be put in a separate case or bag, reports 91mobiles.

The future gadget’s flex hinges and ultra-thin glass, which are also used in its folding phones, make it look very similar to Samsung's smartphone.

The drawings in the document also show that the device could include gaming controls, such as round game joystick controllers, on its sides.

There’s a growing trend of portable gaming consoles, with major gaming players such as PlayStation possibly also working on a handheld gaming console that would let users play PS5 games.

However, Sony has admitted that it could take years to release such a device, while Samsung’s patent doesn’t guarantee that the company will ever launch such a product.
