“You need some ice and a lawyer:” YouTuber shares why he won’t be wearing Samsung’s Galaxy smart ring

Samsung's wearable caused the tech expert to miss a flight and take a trip to the emergency room.
Getting a ring stuck on your finger is already unpleasant. Imagine being in the same situation with a battery-powered ring that could potentially explode.
That’s what happened to Daniel Rotar, a tech video creator and the owner of the YouTube channel Tech of Zone, which has 1.7 million YouTube subscribers.
The UK-based creator shared a picture on X of his swollen finger with a Samsung Galaxy smart ring on it.
In the caption, the man shared that the device’s battery started to swell while he was wearing the ring, causing it to get stuck as he waited to board a plane.
Rotar tagged Samsung for “any quick suggestions,” also revealing how the ring’s battery was expanding and increasing the pressure on his finger.
The post promoted a discussion online, with users sharing tips on how to take the ring off.
One of the users asked, “Was there a battery health indicator? How long have you had the ring? If this happened due to lack of maintenance, then is it user error, or…”

The creator shared that he’s had the ring since the beginning of 2025. While he hadn’t checked the ring’s battery health, he noticed that the battery life had recently decreased from 7 days to 1.5 days.
“When it swelled, it had no battery juice left in it,” shared Rotar, also referring to a Reddit discussion where people shared their issues with the Samsung smart ring’s battery life.
“You probably should not be getting on a flight with that. You need some ice and a lawyer,” wrote another user.
The YouTuber later provided an update, sharing that he wasn’t allowed to board the plane, so he had to book a hotel and fly back home the next day.
The man was also sent to the hospital, where the ring was removed.
“Won’t be wearing a smart ring ever again,” Rotar concluded the post.
The man also gave plausible causes for the ring battery to expand, stating that it could have been impacted by heat, salt water, flying, or a problem with the battery.
While the man didn’t provide an update on whether the company has contacted him, Samsung’s support page advises users to remove the device using soap and water, submerge the finger in cold water to reduce the swelling, hold the hand above heart-level, or seek medical help to cut the ring off.
A discussion on Reddit revealed that more users have been complaining about the battery life of their Samsung Galaxy smart ring.
Multiple users report that the device works fine for approximately half a year, but its battery life starts to decrease soon after.
“I got my ring in September last year. It was fine until March. The battery life got worse. If I go to bed around 50%, I would wake up with a dead battery,” shared one user.
“I've had mine for six months, and the battery won't last 3/4 of a day. What a total waste of my money,” added another netizen.

The users also revealed that the flawed rings aren’t repaired but replaced with new ones.
“They can't repair or send me a replacement. They offered an e-coupon to purchase the ring again,” shared one user, a solution that many found suspicious.
