Samsung phone users noticing screen wear and tear after less than a year

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra users are not happy with what was supposed to be its next-generation screen glass.

Samsung launched its Galaxy S24 smartphone series at the beginning of 2024.

One of its models, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, featured Corning Gorilla Armor glass, which, according to the company, was supposed to be the “toughest, most scratch-resistant, and most optically advanced Gorilla Glass yet.”

However, after almost a year, smartphone users have been complaining about the coating getting worn out, especially the scratch-resistant coating.

X user @Zaryab Khan shared pictures of his Galaxy S24 Ultra after almost a year of use, with the screen smudged and worn out.

The situation started a discussion online, with people sharing their experience with the device’s coating. While most users said they face the same problems, some smartphone users didn’t have the issue, sharing what they do with their devices to keep their screens clean.

“Funny thing is, the screen doesn't scratch, like at all. And the smudges do come off easily with a microfibre at least,” wrote one of X users.

“I preordered mine and got it in January. It's been almost a year. I don't use cases or screen protectors. [...] Not a single scratch,” shared another.

Some Reddit users using the same Samsung model also noticed their coating peeling off.

One of the suggested ways to stop this issue was to use an additional screen protector.

“This has happened on every smartphone without a screen protector, in my experience. Lasts about three months,” wrote one Redditor.

“I experienced this within two months and ended up selling it. I hope this issue is acknowledged, and maybe some free repairs are offered. Too bad as otherwise it was a great phone,” noted another user.

Many agreed that the company should look further into the problem. After X user @piyushbaid95 shared her concerns about the screen, Samsung India reached out to the user stating that they would investigate the problem.

The screen of the $1300 smartphone is supposed to be scratch-resistant and anti-reflective, reducing screen glare in sunlight. It was made by Corning, an American tech company that specializes in glass, ceramics, and other materials and their applications in various industries.
