Samsung unveils rugged phone with improved battery and seven years of security updates

The Samsung Galaxy XCover7 Pro has a bigger battery and a new processor while maintaining the same specs as its predecessor.

Samsung has unveiled an updated rugged smartphone Galaxy XCover7 Pro and Galaxy Tab Active5 Pro tablet, both primarily aimed at business users.

The major update of the XCover7 Pro compared to its predecessor, the XCover6 Pro, is a slightly larger battery capacity. Now, the smartphone boasts a 4350mA replaceable battery, which is still quite modest compared to other rugged phones.

The XCover7 Pro will also feature an upgraded Qualcomm system on a chip, 7s Gen 3, and run on the latest Android 15 OS.

Another new feature compared to its predecessor is longer-lasting security and OS updates. Last year, Samsung announced seven years of updates for its enterprise smartphones.

Otherwise, the device’s specs remain mostly the same compared to the XCover6 Pro. The smartphone has a dual camera system with a 50MP wide, 8MP ultra-wide, and 13MP camera for selfies.

It supports dual-sim and has MIL-STD, IPX8, and IP6X certificates, which allow it to withstand various conditions such as extreme heat, be immersed in 1.5 meters of freshwater for up to 30 minutes, and protect it from dust.

The XCover7 Pro will also support AI features including Circle to Search with Google,14 Object Eraser, AI Select, and Read Aloud.

Meanwhile, Samsung’s latest rugged tablet, Tab Active5 Pro, has received a 25% larger capacity battery of 10,100mAh. It also features an upgraded base version of RAM and storage, which now has 6GB of RAM and 128GB.
