Survey reveals why few people find iPhones under their Christmas tree

There might be fewer Christmas unwrapping videos circulating online this year featuring Apple-related gifts like iPhones and Macbooks.

The holiday season is a time when many companies take the opportunity to increase their sales, and Apple is no exception.

However, gift-buying tendencies are different from what we might think when it comes to Apple products.

A Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) survey has revealed that Apple’s most popular products, the iPhone and Mac, aren’t actually people’s first choice when buying gifts.

In a CIRP survey, new Apple product users were asked how they got their device. Only 3% of users said that they received it as a gift during the year.

The percentage increased from October to December to 6%, with users receiving iPads and Apple Watches as gifts. However, almost no respondents received Apple smartphones or computers.

This tendency revealed that “[...] giving an iPhone as a gift is kind of like giving someone a puppy.”

Considering how much time a person spends looking for a new smartphone or laptop to find the one that suits them best, these devices are perhaps too personal and expensive to be given as a gift.

Nevertheless, the survey showed that the Apple Watch and iPad are less problematic gifts as they’re “nice to have” and don’t require a person to take any additional steps to be able to use them.
