Switchbot’s wallet-finder card also supports Apple’s native network Find My.
Switchbot, a company that specializes in making smart home products, has unveiled a smart tracker that can also be used as a smart home key.
The card’s thickness is 2.5 mm, which is typical for such a device. It is similar to that of a coin.
The card supports Apple’s native network Find My, meaning that users don’t need additional apps to use it. The company claims that lost wallets or other items attached to a tracker can be found using sound alerts of 78dB.
If a card with an item moves out of proximity range, users will receive notifications on their smartphones. The card also has a physical button, which the company claims can help find a smartphone with a double press.
However, the button may bring not only convenience but also additional distractions. With similar trackers, users complained that sitting on a wallet with a card in it accidentally activated a smartphone alarm. For now, it’s unclear how the Switchbot has handled this issue.
Switchbot’s 540 mAh battery can last up to three years on a single charge. It also has an IP 67 certificate for water and dust resistance, meaning that it can be used in rain and snow.
In addition, the card can also function as an NFC when used with other company products, such as a keyboard or touchpad.
The wallet card uses AES-128 encryption to safeguard user data. Switchbot claims that it also supports anti-tracking features to alert users of unknown trackers nearby.
The company prices the tracker at $25.
