“Your finger will almost 9000% fall off:” users react to skin irritation caused by a smart ring

When it comes to wearable tech, we often focus on its features and how accurately it can provide certain metrics. But one important matter to consider is how it reacts to our skin.

At least that was the case for one Reddit user who noticed marks on their finger after taking off their Oura Ring. The person shared pictures online to see what could’ve caused these marks.

“Trapped moisture. You need to make sure you dry both your finger and the ring well before putting it on after each hand wash,” a user online explained.

“Yeah, and the same thing happened to me. Just remember to dry the finger after hand wash and shower,” shared their experience one more Redditor.

While many smart ring wearers agreed that moisture could be the issue, someone also joked, adding, “Your finger will almost 9000% fall off by the end of the week.”

Another wrote:” “Hmmm, your finger feels off. Try to prioritize drying your fingers after washing your hands but either way, do what feels right, you can’t go wrong.”

Many smart rings are waterproof, allowing users to wash their hands, bathe, and swim. However, as many online users have already noted, it’s best to make sure that the device stays dry after contact with water.

“I experienced the same issue until I began to rotate the ring on different fingers,” shared another user online.

Oura Social Care on Reddit also joined the discussion by explaining that “it could probably be residues or moisture trapped between the ring and finger.”

While in this case skin irritation was caused by not-so-serious external factors, it’s not always the case.

It was previously revealed that some smartwatch bands could include a “forever chemical,” or PFHxA, that can cause health issues for one’s immune system, thyroid, liver, and more.

Among the companies that sell products containing PFHxA are Apple, Samsung, Google, Fitbit, and CASETiFY.

For this reason, Apple was even sued for selling wristbands that contain these toxic chemicals.
